Amazingly, nobody talks about it. Literally 0 results in any searches on this topic. Do gamers not care? Is there a censorship campaign going on to suppress the noticing? No idea, but because nobody talks about it, I will.

Basically, Steam has had this profanity filter that filters out words like nigger from most content posted on Steam by their customers for years. However, recently, roughly in the end of November 2024, they seriously expanded the dictionary of words that are deemed profane and by default are replaced with heart symbols by the profanity filter. Now they filter out mundane words like "shit" or "homo".

If one isn't logged on and for all anonymous observers the filtered content will display hearts all over the place.

First note regarding this is the slippery slope was proven real, once again. They first start with things not many people object to, then creep further and further. What's so obscene in naming my mod "homogeneous fleshpounds" and when I talk about it casually I tend to shorten it to "homo fps" and this suddenly is a no-no?

If no pushback and so far hasn't been any, they will eventually proceed further and clamp down on the freedoms to express oneself. E.g. there will not only be slurs, but any "misinformation" (= any opinion they don't like), similarly to what TWI currently does in their forums.

And so far there hasn't been any pushback. As an example, we have a "Sentinels of the Store" steam group that boasts this in its "about" section:

Of course, as usual, this "everyone" is not everyone, LMAO. In this case, they chose that this profanity clampdown isn't worth their attention, even after some members tried to bring it up. This "everyone" doesn't include, obviously, any slur or derogatory word users, which is a pretty broad group of gamers which includes even such seemingly unusual people like Tamari, who has a history of relying on derogatory words like "psycho" or "idiot" or "prick" and so on:

What's interesting in this Steam profanity clampdown is it came to be right after the media campaign by ADL and its affiliates accusing Steam of being too relaxed with "anti-semitism" and other "hate speech". Sentinels had a blogpost about it here:

The contents of this blogpost hint why they are suddenly not that interested in the profanity and hate speech clampdown, as they take a supposedly even handed approach at describing ADL:

For those of you who don't know what the ADL is, allow me to fill you in. The ADL is a global organization that claims to fight antisemitism, bigotry, and other forms of hate. Their proclamation includes protecting democracy, securing justice, and exercising fair treatment for all with a heavy focus on stopping the defamation of Jewish people (hence its name). The ADL has been around for some time, being founded in 1913 in Chicago, and has been tackling social injustices ever since.

Now, the ADL has been involved in a great number of controversies in the past, including inconsistencies on what counts as a genocide[web.archive.org], accusations of Islamophobia[www.thenation.com] within the organization, internal tussling with its own leadership[jewishcurrents.org] and many more. I bring these up neither to shame the ADL nor to go to bat for them. This just helps to contextualize that they're an organization that has been through the trenches and they haven't come out smelling of roses, hence they're not exactly the most popular suit. These controversies aren't related to the report we're talking about today, but it's more just to add context behind why some users have been relatively quick to shut this report down due to the ADL's reputation.

There's absolutely nothing controversial about the ADL though. It's a jewish supremacist anti-white hate group. It has nothing to do with justice. Things you want to know about it:

ADL is simply a jewish interest anti-white hate group.

Given such lack of response and weasel words from "Sentinels of the Store", you can rest assured that they won't ever speak out to protect the rights of "everyone" if this involves going against the powerful authority, such as various jewish interest groups. Their level is making buzz about some scam gamedevs that put shitty games into the steam store and bump them up with fake reviews. Nobody plays these games in the first place and the scale of the problem is literally a few dozen fake reviews of garbage games the total sales of which count in just mere hundreds copies sold, LMAO. They don't even pick up the problem of bots in games such as KF2, TF2, PD2, which count in tens of thousands and inflict probably much more damage to both the appropriate studios customers and steam in general.

But, of course, it's totally expected that Steam caved in to the pressure from ADL. They never fight back. All you need to know about Gabe Newell is this:

So, expect in the future, you just watch:

* not just hearts, but bans;
* more words included as profanity;
* not being able to call the palestinian genocide for what it is: genocide;
* bans and content removals for "misinformation" or "hate speech".

This platform sucks titan balls and goes to shit. Game launchers are trash and should be treated as such.

Getting back to KF, as there were so many woke indicators discussed here, expect in KF3:

* no slurs or curses in merc banter, no more player insults, no more "wankers", no more "MFs", no more even "shit";
* bans and filters for slurs or curses in the in-game chat and voice chat;
* no modding as it would allow said user-generated content.
