Any easy ways to record HL/ HL2 gameplay?
It would be cool to know some ways to record playsessions on the big days.
I was also thinking about people picking some of their fauvorite moments and highlights so that someone, (me if nobody else wants to) could collect them to video celebrating tenth aniversary of Half life 2.

Also, if you don`t have recording capabilities, but like some part in the games in particular, I´ll do best I can to record them myself.

try msi afterburner. it's free and very good, easy to use etc.

Open Broadcaster is another free one, a bit more technical but includes a lot of features. I'm not sure about MSI Afterburner, but I can't recommend Fraps under any circumstances lol.

Fraps is the easiest to use and its worked fine for me having had it for a few years.

If you have an Nvidia card, ShadowPlay is the way to go, it comes with the GeForce Experience, and that comes with your drivers. If you don't want to use ShadowPlay, or you have an AMD card, I would give Dxtory a shot. With the x264vfw codec, and the correct settings, you can keep a pretty stable fps, and keep the filesize pretty small, and the quality pretty good.

NVIDIA Drivers (only if you have an NVIDIA card): http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us

you can use the source record method:

pros:
no lag
render at max super mega ultra hd!
(plus when you are rendering-in game you can use thigns like thirdperson that will be showed in the video!)

cons:
hard to render
30 seconds take like 2gb of your computer, so you need to have a lot of space.

sparrowstar: Nvidia ShadowPlay's awesome and all, but the issue with that is the fact that older Nvidia graphics cards do not have that functionality (I believe all Kepler and newer architectures are eligible for this feature). However, since I have a GTX 590, I tend to just use Fraps or even in-game demo recording (Source).

Steam added Live Broadcasting to the Beta. It doesn't record, but it's live at least!

does it lag?
Snarplord XVI Dec 3, 2014 @ 4:26pm
Nope. It's a live thing, you just have to enable Steam Beta and put it on Anyone Can View Broadcasts.
