What if Tankery could get turned into a real sport?
Of course looking at the facts provided in the anime and manga building tanks strong enough to withstand hits from real armour-piercing shells would be close to impossible.

But what if some rich bugger could turn the technology we have in the Tesla cars and create replicas of real tanks using the Tesla electric motor. Of course the tanks must be built in a material with the same weight of a car to make them possible to drive with the electric engine. Attention to detail on the tanks is a must to make them look historically accurate including the interior.

The exterior of the tank will then get coated by a computer technology similar to laserdome. Weakspots will get mapped by the system and parts of the tank where the armour is strongest. The turret will like laserdome fire a laser with a unique light effect making it look like a real shell just left the barrel, and with perhaps a high quality speaker for realistic firing effects. The outer coat of the target tank will then calculate the damage and the severeness. If the computer identify a direct hit on a tank's weakspot it will send up that white flag and shut itself down. Otherwise the tank will keep moving until immobilized. A tow truck will get dispatched to retrieve the disabled tank and it's crew.

The gun itself will have a lock to give the loader a job in the tank. The laser mechanism will only activate if you load a shell into the breach. Once loaded it will enable the gunner to fire, and the empty shell will get thrown out like if it actually was fired to simulate the experience. The same goes for the machine guns but it should fire a laser with effects made for it to look like you are firing tracer rounds. And the machine gun also have to be reloaded with fake bullets before fired. Machine guns will also have a damage output if the enemy team have light tanks or tankettes, like the Anzio High School Carro Veloce tankettes. However, if fied against heavier tanks it won't do much good other than perhaps a sound effect registered by the tank's computer to confuse and distract the crew.

There is also an option to actually load a real shell into the breach but a blank. Once fired the laser will engage but it will also fire the blank shell giving a realistic sense of recoil and firepower. But this is a more expensive option.

Each tank will carry a realistic number of fake shells and ammo belts to enable more tactical thinking. And even in veteran matches the tanks can be programmed to turn itself off when the fuel runs out to enable a fuel limit. If a tank runs out of shells the commander have their own responsibility to shoot up the white surrender flag.

This would be fully possible in our modern age. And if lasers sound too advanced and expensive there is always the paintball option. We already have paintball tanks. And of course we'd need people to create fenced-off battlefields for tournaments. And if this were a thing schools need to get creative when forming their Tankery clubs with a few criterias in mind. Theme based on historical accuracy if possible, emblems, uniforms, and of course have capable leaders able to formulate strategies and figure out what tanks to order for the school to suit their doctrine and theme. Of course all of this comes down to the budget of the school.

The day when someone get around to do this I'd pay to enter the tournaments!

Yeah, if I ever become a millionare this is the first thing I'd do.

Also, you don't really need to worry about the shells that much. Regular HE would work, as it has very little penetrating power against tanks- it was mostly for infantry and light vehicles. And, as you said, blanks would be a option as well.

Counting on you. ;)

But I guess high-explosive shells would work too, but considering our high standards on safety I doubt they would get approved.

It doesn't matter to me if it's girls only. :IrisHeartRebirth3: But I doubt it would be.

Very likely unisex or it wouldn't be much fun. But I wouldn't mind having girls play the role of judges if they're not up to participating. ;)
