AND THE SECOND HAPPENS WHEN I VALIDATE THE BACKUP ARCHIVE :

Please help me with this, I have tried reinstalling, saving on different partitions, you name it.

P.S. : in the past I was able to make a full backup of my saved games without problems (around 2015)

THANKS!

I've had a look at the backup archive you emailed me, but cannot find anything that would cause a 'failed validation' error.

Let's try some troubleshooting steps...

1. Confirming the backup's contents
  • Open GameSave Manager and select 'Make a backup' from the Main Menu
  • Expand the entry titled 'Age of Wonders III'
  • Click onto the child entry titled 'C:\Users\Username\Documents\My Games\AoW3\Profiles'
  • From the 'Files' section of the right-hand panel, confirm the following are listed (where %Profile% is your game profile's name):
    %Profile%\SAVES\1.ACG %Profile%\SAVES\110.ACG %Profile%\SAVES\2.ACG %Profile%\SAVES\3.ACG %Profile%\SAVES\4.ACG %Profile%\SAVES\5.ACG %Profile%\SAVES\9.ACG %Profile%\SAVES\AUTOSAVE_SP.ACG %Profile%\SAVES\AUTOSAVE_SP.~ACG %Profile%\%Profile%.APD %Profile%\%Profile%.APS
Does GameSave Manager list all of the above? Does it list any files that I did not list here?

2. Manually cleaning the caching path
  • While GameSave Manager is closed, hold the Windows Key on your keyboard and press R
  • A 'Run' dialog will now appear. Enter '%appdata%' into it's 'Open' field and press Enter
  • From within the Windows Explorer window that was just opened, double-click onto the 'GameSave Manager 3' folder.
  • Delete the '$$ CacheDir $$' folder
  • Start GameSave Manager and attempt your backup once more

3. Changing the caching directory
  • Open GameSave Manager and select 'Modify Variables' from the Main Menu
  • From within the dialog window that is now open, tick the 'Customise the caching directory' checkbox
  • A new field and Browse button will now be shown. Click said Browse button
  • Select a new directory you wish to use as your 'caching' directory (I'd recommend something simple like 'C:\GSM_CACHE' for testing purposes) and then click OK to close the dialog
  • Restart GameSave Manager and attemp your backup once more

Do you have any non-standard characters in your Windows username? Examples of which would be á, é, í, ó and non-latin based languages (such as Russian, Japanese, etc).

The v3.x branch of GSM has issues with such things.
A potential fix for this would be to run GSM in a directory that doesn't have such characters (such as "C:\GameSave Manager") and use the Modify Variables option on the Main Menu to use a different 'caching' directory than the default.

Well, no, I don't have non-standard characters in my Windows username or in the path to the program. The path is : C:\Program Files (x86)\GameSave Manager v3 . I also want to mention that I have installed it.

I have files and folders with non-standard characters in my computer in general (music, movies or books).

Could you send me backup which "fails" the validation checks?
Send it to insanematt [at] gamesave-manager.com (or through Discord if you wish, invite link on the GSM website).

Ok, I will send you an e-mail with the backup file.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

Step 2 and 3 worked for me (combined), now the backup is done without errors and it validates without errors. Thanks a million!!!:ZAT_Correct:

Yes, the program lists exactly those entries. But if the folder is viewed with Windows Explorer there aren't any APD or APS files .
