Things to note. I recomend having the PSU installed in before installing MOBO. I recomend being grounded so an ESC braclet is good to have but not a must. I use a wire wrap home made around my wrist or ankle. Make sure you have risers and the back face plate prongs are pushed in and our to the way.

Without a doubt the Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition is faster than anything you can get that fits into an LGA-775 socket at a remotely similar price point. AMD has done its duty well there, the 965 is clearly a better option than the Q9550 or Q9650 for that matter.

As a gaming CPU, it's actually competitive with the i7s. If you exclude the FarCry 2 results, which I hardly believe are representative of most games, the Phenom II X4 965 is easily just as good of a gaming CPU as an i7 in today's titles. Now once you start throwing in background tasks and look at future titles being more threaded then the picture becomes a little more muddy.

Walker.. I predict within 10 years Nvidia will either be baught out by via or intel. YoY (Year-Over-Year) there market has srunk this past year they lost 10%. It is getting squezed hard by AMD and Intel with IGPs chipsets and on die graphics along with AMD/ATI hittiing hard with better product. This past year they started selling directly into the cahnnel cutting out there board partners. So the partners are pissed cause now they have to unfairly compete with there supplier. Unless AMD changes direction and drops it's hold on the GPU market there is not much wiggle room for Nvidia. It is tight for AMD as well but they have broader markets.

See spec sheet. On newegg for only $95 + $8 shipping. Check to see if Fry's has it. It has 1 Pata, 3GB/s on Sata meaning Sata II. Supports DDR3 1066 which i believe is the memory you already have. So no memory purchase will be needed.

Walk... Sorry. I guess last nights wasn't my last. You may want to rethink that Nvidia vs AMD thing. I have a link where AMD 6970s in Xfire out pace the way more expensive 580s in SLI. Also a 6970 will pair up to in performance to an Nvidia 570. The 570 and the 6970 are selling for about the same. Yet the 6950 is selling for about $100 less. The cool thing about the 6950 Reference card is that you can turn it into a 6970 for about $100 savings. We flashed Michael's bios last night and walah.. he has a new 6970 stock card. Can't take a 570 and turn it into a 580 from what I know. Also Xfire seems to perform well if not better then SLI at least per the link below in Far Cry 2 wich usually favors Nvidia from what I remember.

Walker... Last post on this, I promis. But check out the graph. Tech report gives i think the best summed up info on Price/performance ratio for all CPUs AMD and Intel.. This way you know what your getting. Just rember this is an average. I will say this I have 5 AMD Quad Cores and even the oldest and slowest works well. I have not been disipointed with any of them.

Walker.. i got some good links for you to do some System research on. Focus on the game benches and remember what it is about. Price/performance. If you get lost in the numbers you will only gravitate to the leader. Yet when you go to buy it it will cost you lots.

See link. There will be a bunch of trade rag links that should help you. Also notice on the 6 core some times it's near the top and some times it's in the middle. all that depends on how well the code is written/architected.

Also if you get an AM3+ MOBO in June you can still use an AM3 class CPU and then in a couple of years if you need a boost, you will still have a drop in upgrde to bulldozer with no extra cost. Not the case with Intel. So you save lots now and then you save in the future. Can't beat that anywhere.
