[Unique Player Numbers] VS [steamcharts.com]
Hello guys, Paperclip here.
Most of you are familar with the site steamcharts.com.
For those of you that aren't, it is a site that tracks player numbers for every game on Steam.
In particular it tracks peak players and also can show you average players, however the most cited statistics from this site are the peak players, as this is the graph they display.

[CS:GO steamcharts graph] http://steamcharts.com/app/730#All
EDIT: [Unique Players Graph] http://imgur.com/a/L8wAP (DATA IS CORRECT FOR EACH MONTH IN THIS GRAPH.) Each month is represented correctly.

While this is a good indicator of the games growth, it is often misleading in some areas, or at least could potentially be misleading. (Due to tournament spikes and time of year etc.)
Not everyone is necessarily going to be online at the same time.
To try and clear this up and offer an alternative way of looking at CS:GO's true player history, instead of this inaccurate peak player method, I have used https://archive.org/web/ aka The Wayback Machine to gather the monthly unique players for CS:GO going back as far as I could.

I believe monthly uniques is a better way to track the true past and present popularity of CS:GO over the commonly cited steamcharts.

Now, I present to you the RAW DATA for each month.

KEY) 2013 Nov) 1,270,955 = 1,270,955 for October of 2013.
or 2015 mar) 5,716,705 = 5,716,705 for February of 2015.

Each piece of data shown represents the previous month of unique player numbers.

Valve started showing last months monthly uniques since November 2013, which means we have numbers back as far as October 2013.

I hope you guys find it helpful, I'll try to keep it updated each month when Valve updates it.

I don't know about you guys but this data immediately shows me just how little the playerbase dropped in April ---> June.
On the steamcharts graph the monthly peak went from 850,485 (April 2016) to 579,110 (June 2016) This has been shown by so many youtubers and websites showing how CS:GO practically lost 1/3rd of it's playerbase in 2 months. While in reality the drop was actually only from 10,451,389 in April to 10,146,640.
(Yes I'm aware that these 2 dates happen to be non-updated ones however they are close enough to be compared.)

The Steam charts drop was 32%
versus
Monthly uniques only a drop of 3%!!!

This straight away proves how monthly uniques is a more effective method of measuring CS:GO's past and currenty popularity.

At least now when a Youtuber, website, or website user in the future declares CS:GO's death, we'll have numbers to back ourselves up.

Regards,
Paperclip.

Well this data shows that a lot of people play CS:GO. Which is good. Since a lot of people thought many players had left, but they didn't.

The CSGO is growing more and more, and the returning players also add up to the number. The smurfing scene is starting to get more intense than usual. There are new markets arising due to such fundamentals. The e-sports is at it's peak as there is more hype about it in recent years and it is going to grow, until and unless Half Life 3 is released :)
