What happened to the site?
Soo..been a member to the site for a really long time. Never did take part in the community much cause in truth I never felt like I had fitted in with you all much. So yea I am asking since I haven't found a topic that actually is talking about it. But what happened to the site? Why has it been down for so long, and why am I only now learning about this steam group? xD

What he said. The site didn't get a whole lot of traffic, but it did require a fair bit of money to stay online, so in the end, well, that didn't work out. Also it's probably a good thing you don't fit in much, I dare say we are mostly misfits after all.

Hahaha.

Yes, the site basically couldn't sustain itself, the server costs were too high, and revenue was like 0 since no ads (perk of DGEmu in reality compared to other sites that are infested with ads and spam).

If you need anything specific about emulation, don't hesitate to ask me, I pretty much have stuff that are up-to-date archived on my own personal server. I can get them online somehow to you if you need.

Pretty much it was one of the regular sites I checked out for roms. Though if anything I have been having issue trying to get one emulator type to work.

Let me know what's up, I can probably help?

3DS emulators can't even get them to run.
Meru Otonashi Apr 11, 2016 @ 12:26am
Ermm, that's pretty much normal. There aren't any 3DS emulators out there that can run commercial games yet... It's pretty much a dream for the time being.

The latest gen handhelds that are properly emulated are the Nintendo DS and Sony PSP.
Anything beyond that is a no go.

As for consoles, the latest emulated console gens are Nintendo Wii and Sony PlayStation 2. Again, anything beyond that is just a dream for the time being.

If you're talking about modding a console or using a flash cart though, 3DS has been fully cracked open, there's quite a few people in the discussions here doing mods to their consoles to play 3DS ROMs on a physical machine. You can ask them if needed, as my 3DSes are all still fully legit since I've come clean for a while *cough* >.>

Hahaha

.... we posted announcements on the front page about the then upcoming demise of DGEmu ... guess you didn't see them ...

About this time last year our founder, DM, said the site was paid up till September and he wasn't gonna renew due to the costs, we spoke about alternatives but DM went MIA for several months, and Meru had big plans but couldn't do them without DM giving him access to stuff ... September came and we were still up ... late October DM resurfaced for one day and said he had received emails from the company basically pleading him to renew (we have been with them for several years so they didn't want to lose our business lol). January 10/11th and finally they cut us off ... since then we have wandered in this group (which AGAIN we posted about in the announcements several times before) .... since then Meru has been trying to contact DM ... I decided to contact him the other day and in 36 hours he replied to me (mustn't like Meru lol).

He redirected DGEmu.com to go here so if anyone was still trying (like yourself), they would find us here.

Meru has been super busy (apparently) .... he neglects all PMs and posts trying to get his attention *COUGH COUGH ... HINT HINT*

... I thought we had something about the site closing ... must be hidden in a topic that doesn't have a title to do it justice .....

Now we have one! Pinned and locked!

Hacking the 3DS was a big ole pain in the ass, but there doesn't seem to be much risk involved. There seemed to be a way out of pretty much any problem you saw. Me and KHRS fucked it up big time on multiple occasions because the guides we were using basically stopped being relevant about halfway through, but we still managed to piece it together.
KHRS Apr 11, 2016 @ 9:09am
tbh it was a lot of effort just to save like at the most $100 because there really aren't very many games worth pirating
Dox Apr 11, 2016 @ 11:37am
Hey, a hundred bucks is a hundred bucks.

Besides, it's more than $100 for me: Fire Emblem, Pokémon Mystery Dungeon, Bravely Second, Mario & Luigi, the upcoming Pokémon Sun/Moon... I call worth.
KHRS Apr 11, 2016 @ 3:19pm
dont get me wrong on a personal level, it was worth it for me, it's just that the 3ds library is pretty lacking

If you mean fire emblem fates, it's not worth your money if you plan the offical american localization.

Oh, don't be one of those people. The localization is fine.
