Couldn't let go of it. That would be a "git gut" for the PVP playerbase - even better :D

In short: They made sure some overgeared twinks can't just pawn everything?
I would call that good game design :D

@Groen90 the red arena was very populated in ds2. And i understand why. No one lost human form and had to use an effigy after dying. Same in ds3. Either you don't ember and have a disadvantage (which can be pretty huge), or you risk losing and wasting an ember if you die as the host

I thought the brotherhood of blood's arena in Dark Souls 2 seemed pretty populated and fun. But I mostly just used the Iron Keep bridge anyways because touching the summon sign/leaving a sign felt more satisfying than kneeling in front of a statue.

I feel arenas were pointless in DS2, everyone was dropping their sign down at the iron keep bridge anyway, lol. Same thing back in DS1, DLC arenas are still deserted and everyone drops their sign at Oolacile Township. I see here in DS3 the popular spot is right after Sulyvahn so if you want duels that's the place.

The real problem the lack of arena convenant which were present in the dark souls 2. Now if you want to pvp your only choice is to invade people watting for you.

That's why I play mainly in embered status but solo ! :) I'm opening the gate for invasions, but i'm not summoning people. Of course, as a sunbro, I'm, sometimes, helping other hosts, but the majority of time, I won't gank and prefer to stay out of business, even if it means that the host uses the black cristal on me, sadly.

I like to play embered, because I like the graphical effect (high fashion, go figure) and then 30% HP buff is nice, but I typically try to go through the game without help. I'm challenging myself to try to kill every boss solo, at least on my first playthrough. When I co-op I do notice that most of the time, the host goes into the boss room and triggers the cinematic (indicating that they haven't even tried a solo attempt yet) Granted, a lot of these may be alts trying to speed toward endgame, but it does seem like a very accessible crutch. To each their own I guess.

Now, on the other hand, trying to play embered through the road of sacrifices/farron's keep can be a fricking nightmare with all the watchdog covenant invasions. I once got 3 invaders back to back, and got summoned into a world as a blue phantom where I was instantly gibbed by 4 reds.

I've had quite a bit of activity in darkmoon/blue sentinels, even when there are other friendly phantoms in the host's world. It does seem to come in waves though... sometimes there are long periods of time with no summons, and other times it seems like it's one after another (late game SL100+ at this point)

I do agree that the odds are REALLY stacked against invaders. It's the very rare sight that you will get to invade someone for a 1on1 fight. Even then they will usually run and summon someone as soon as they get the invasion message. The exception is dried finger users, where you may wind up with a 2nd red phantom in the mix to liven things up. (more in a sec)
