I would call that good game design :D
Now, on the other hand, trying to play embered through the road of sacrifices/farron's keep can be a fricking nightmare with all the watchdog covenant invasions. I once got 3 invaders back to back, and got summoned into a world as a blue phantom where I was instantly gibbed by 4 reds.
I do agree that the odds are REALLY stacked against invaders. It's the very rare sight that you will get to invade someone for a 1on1 fight. Even then they will usually run and summon someone as soon as they get the invasion message. The exception is dried finger users, where you may wind up with a 2nd red phantom in the mix to liven things up. (more in a sec)
