[MOD] SNES Item, Equipment, Tech, and Enemy Names
This mod aims to restore the original English SNES names for items, equipment, techs, and enemies, as well as a few locations, like Magus' Lair (instead of The Fiendlord's Keep). This also replaces any references to "the Fiendlord" in the script with Magus' name instead. Additionally, the complete and monster/location name versions of the mod now also include the dialog timing fixes made by Zeikar.

To install:

1) Download the patch or patches you'd like to install:
Complete mod with all translations[www.dropbox.com]
Item and equipment names only[www.dropbox.com]
Enemy and location names only[www.dropbox.com]
Tech names only[www.dropbox.com]

2) As always, make a backup copy of your "resources.bin" file in your main Chrono Trigger game folder, just in case.

3) Download Nyxo's CTExplore program here[www.rivernyxx.com], and unzip the contents into a folder of their own somewhere.

4) Run the included CTExplore.exe, click File -> Open Archive, browse to your Chrono Trigger folder, and open your "resources.bin" file.

5) Click Patch -> Open Patch, then browse to where you downloaded your patch/patches, and open one. Say No to the "Clear replacements?" popup.

6) Now click File -> Save Archive, let the progress bar finish. If you downloaded multiple separate patches above, then repeat steps 5 and 6 for each one, making sure to save between applying each. When you are done applying your patches, close CTExplore, and you are good to go.

NOTE: If you would like to use the "Complete" or "Enemy and Locations" versions of the mod in conjunction with Zeikar's "Chrono" name mod, you'll need to install this additional patch[www.dropbox.com], after installing my translation patches.

A BIG thanks to Zeikar for putting in the work to incorporate his Timed Dialog Fix into this translation mod, and making sure everything in this mod is fully compatible with his fix. If you run into any bugs or problems with the name replacements, please let me know, and I'll do my best to fix them ASAP.

ALSO, for anyone interested in an even more complete conversion (which includes the changes of this mod as well), I strongly urge you to check out Magus39's project to restore the full Ted Woolsey translation from the original SNES release. http://steamcommunity.com/groups/ChronoTriggerModding/discussions/0/1697168437881214627/

This is most excellent! Thank you for this so much!

I'm outside Magus's Castle and it is still named Fiendlord's Keep on the world map.
EDIT: I'm not sure if this was intentional but Spincut is still Cleave.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the heads up. I totally missed Cleave. And I'm gonna look into why the location name change isn't working properly. I'll have it updated soon hopefully.

Alright, fixes made and should be working now. Let me know if the world map name is still incorrect. Thanks again.

This is fantastic! Now I can take this off the Planned Features list and move it to Completed!

I will continue testing and proofing for errors. Thanks for the awesome work!

I don't know if this was included in your scope of work done but when fighting Magus and he casts Dark Matter it says Fiendlord's strongest attack. Everything else I've seen so far looks great.

Edit: I assume you didn't mean to miss it because everything else in the battle says Magus. Here is a screenshot just because.

Ah, yeah that's in a separate file of enemy attacks. I can make the change to that as well though for consistency. There may also be some inconsistencies in the script as well, which I haven't changed at all.

Updated again to correct any further remaining instances of "the Fiendlord" instead of Magus, including in the rest of the game's script (assuming I didn't miss anything).
Thanks for the patch! No more Fiendlord B.S. and I'm glad you have a separate download options as I never liked how misleading the original translation for Techs were like for Confuse.

I am using the 'Enemy and location names only' and I noticed that the boss that blows bubbles etc names the party "Enemies of Fiendlord". Perhaps you oversaw this. I've applied the patch again, perhaps I patched it wrong. But just a tip.

Aww crap. Nah, that's just a super obscure one I missed. I'll look for it and get it changed. Thanks for pointing it out.

So, I've run a search through literally every text file in the game looking for this instance, and it doesn't seem to appear anywhere in the files. So I'm kinda stumped on that one.

Strange!
Zeikar Mar 30, 2018 @ 11:48pm
I found the problem
1. The line is actually "Death to the enemies of fiendkind!"
2. None of the references to fiend, fiends, or fiendkind are replaced in kmes0.txt!! This is the exact problem Ivysaur is describing!
3. There are still a few TXT FILES that say Fiendlord or Fiendlord's Keep!!!
4. This mod as it is, is not very compatible with the Timed Dialog Fix or Magus39's Translation!

EDIT: Oops, I just realized he was using your mod as a base, but if you want to update these patches separately of his, we need to collaborate a bit, I can fix any timed dialog mistakes or anything else I catch and he can continue his translation.

Ah, yeah I didn't change any of those, as they were not direct references to Magus/Fiendlord, so I wasn't sure what the direct translation would be there. What does the original script say in those instances?

In the case of the text files that still retain the Fiendlord name, there were a few that denote area names for item placements, FMV triggers, etc. that I chose not to mess with, assuming that might actually break something, rather than actually change text that would be surfaced to the player in-game. If you've noticed instances of Fiendlord still popping up in-game though as a result, please let me know though. I could have been mistaken as to how those ones worked.
