Dedicated LAN Server Questions: Buying Hardware, Using Old hardware, and Other Miscellaneous Things
I wanted to host a small LAN party event for around 20-30 people, so I'm looking to set up 2 or 3 dedicated LAN servers at 128tics and at 10-slots each. I've done a bit of research but still have some questions..

Server Related Questions:
  1. Are some cheap server options? Something like a HP/Dell "workstation" computers that I might be able to buy used on ebay for cheap? Like one of those old "office" computers that people sell with 4Gb of RAm and a core 2 duo? I'm looking for sub-$100 system per server (mobo+cpu+ram+psu) if possible. I have plenty spare hard drives and I could just use debian or steamOS. I've seen some cheap $40 optiplex towers on craigslist near where I live.

  2. I have a couple Mid 2010 Mac Minis laying around that I was hopping to repurpose into dedicated servers, would they be a viable option? [Core 2 Duo 2.4Ghz, 4Gb Ram]. If so, am I better off installing Debian or will it be just as good on OSX? I did find this post which makes me think that maybe I should bootcamp linux to it, but I don't wanna have to deal with driver installation and stuff unless I absolutely have to.

  3. I fell upon this article [linustechtips.com] about the possibility of using a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ raspberry pi for a dedicated server... is this really possible? I thought I read somewhere that CSGo server is not very "core" intensive as much as it is "clock speed" intensive. But then again, if there are no bots and each player has their own CPU to process stuff, I figured maybe the server could possibly be low resource hungry? Is there truth to this post or is my RP dream a lie?

Other Questions:
  1. Is there a way to extract live match data from the server to another computer? I thought it'd be cool to project live game information on the wall, but I didn't want to just stream the match where people can screen-peek. So I thought it'd be cool to project a sort of live game leaderboard (the "tab" window) with current score, kills, player stats, etc. Is something like this possible? I mean, is there a practical way to do this without someone spectating in free camera mode and holding down the tab menu?

  2. Will a few cheapy 8-port dumb switches work ok, or should I invest in a nice small biz solution cisco switch? I plan on possibly doing LAN parties again depending on how this one goes. I'm not trying to make money from this or anything like that, just get some local CSGO players together to have fun. If it all works out, maybe I'll consider getting sign-up money, and do tourneys, etc.
I have a free venue, as my boss has allowed me to use our office's conference room during weekends for me to organize this event at least once per month or so. Pretty sweet deal, but I have to figure out the details.

Thanks!
