Well the only other thing I can think of is the $illumposition QC line which the dota importer does automatically. So I'm honestly not sure what the problem is. Sorry :/

It's a problem with GIMP. I still can't figure out how to properly use channels with GIMP. I really do recommend getting a copy of photoshop.

A few people have had this problem... Nobody knows what causes it, and as far as I know everyone does something different to fix it. You could try several things:

1) Import it with a random name just to check (i.e. "aswefjaskdjgaksgja")
2) Verify the integrity of the game cache files for TF2 and retry the import process
3) Delete your workshop files locally (or move them out of the steam folder) and retry

I'm not sure I understand fully. Do you mean that your model is flipped spatially? Or is the texture appearing backwards?

If it's just a spatial error, that means you just have to redo your bones and re-export the model. Is this model a static prop? Start a fresh scene, re-import a bone/rig, and reapply the bones to your model.

It's pretty simple. Just create a VERY low polygon version of your model (you can be extremely liberal with how little polygons you use). Then make sure the entire thing is smooth (no edgesplit modifiers). Then export the smd with an appropriate name such as example_physics.smd.

Now in your qc file you will need to specify the collision model:


This is assuming you are compiling the old way and not with the in-game importer. The in-game importer doesn't support collision models.

That's your problem then. Reapply the material and re-export.

When you say no textures, do you mean your model is invisible? Or does it show up as purple/black?

There could be a few things wrong. Filepaths, not assigning the material correctly from within blender, mismatching .vmt and .tga names, etc.

I guess you could start by checking to see if your material was assigned correctly. Right click your .smd file and choose "Edit with notepad++". Do you see your material name listed correctly? If you don't know what it's supposed to look like, it should look something like this:


Notice the texture name: "wingedhelm_color". This is what I applied to my model in blender (wingedhelm_color.tga), and it should match up with your .vmt file (wingedhelm_color.vmt).

Make sure you don't have any weird looking texture name in your smd file. If so, reapply the material and re-export. Check again to make sure it worked. If everything looks good so far, let me know.

Manually you can select 2 vertices and press "alt+m".

You might have to flip them manually then. Go into texture mode in blender. Do those faces appear invisible too? If so, it's a problem with your normals and you can individually select faces and flip them (a polygon can only display the texture from one side-- therefore if it is flipped, the face will appear invisible from that side).
