First model - mostly done, but need advice.

So I made two models of the same object to match the lod0 and lod1 limits, but I need advice on how to get the proper color scheme to paint it, I am using gimp for the first time to be honest. I don't want to mess it up now.

Also, should I build the whole set as I planned or publish the one item seperate? If so, will I be able to make a set of it at a later time?
