Hats and Mask
Hi,

I would love it if someone can help me answer this question: If you're trying to make a mask, hats or just trying to add some stuff on the face like a mustache or glasses. Would it be made by extruding from the tf_heads or would you simply make the facial mask as a seperate mesh? And if so, which bip would it be connected to? All comments are welcomed. Thank You :)

You'll need to use facial flexes for that. Warning: facial flexes are NOT easy. Napy de Wise made a tutorial on how to do that here: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=170877216

So if I wanted to make something close like this, how would you make it? http://steamcommunity.com/workshop/browse/?appid=440&p=1
Would this be a seperate mesh? And which bip would this be attach to?

The hat and glasses probably are just modeled regularly (probably using the bip_head bone and some other bone-- check a decompile glasses model).

The chin strap might use facial flexes, but then again I don't know. Did you look at Napy's guide?

Also, make this entire thing one model is a BAD idea. This is because there are many slots in-game (i.e. hats, glasses, beards, etc.). So if this was just one model, it wouldn't work because it would need to fill one of those slots, and you'd be able to wear two glasses at the same time. Definitely make a hat seperate from the goggles.

Thank You for your reply, I am getting a better picture now thx :D
i have a question that i think that is related to this, so i decided to post it here instead of making a new discussion. I had an idea for a set for the sniper, but i want to make it have "facial paint".

The set itself is a hat and a misc related to camouflage, and i had the idea to add some green and black/dark green paint on his face, but i don't know how to do it. maybe adding some mesh over the actual face and making the texture fit the face color and then adding the facial pant over it?

I don't know exactly how I would ho about doing this other than using facial flexes. I think there is a similar item in-game that you could probably decompile and check out. Perhaps you could ask Napy.
so you don't know any other way aside of facial flexes? that's bad because i only wanted to paint sniper's face a bit, and that's too much work just for that... i'll do the rest of the models and if it looks too empty i'll try harder with the facial paint.
