Texturing

I've been making models for a while and been getting better. The thing that throws me of is the texturing. I just can't get that tf2 look onto my models. I would like to learn and do it myself rather than just let someone else do it. I use gimp and have a sketching program that have better brushes. Can someone help me get better at texturing by leading me to guides or just tips that would help. Thanks guys.

I did and it was helpful but not the brush stroke becasue that is only for photoshop. I was working on it the other day and I found this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-NjOeg4oOJY. I lookewd carefully(even though it was fast) to the technique and made a brush in gimp for it. Now my textures look way better.
