[TF2] Winter Hat for scout (Finished)
###############
Link to the workshop
###############
i'm working on a set for the scout, it's winter themed and it's made ofa hat and 2 miscs:
Hat: a typical snowboarding hat with ski glasses (and maybe a scarf, depending on the polycount)
Misc1: An anorak and snow pants
Misc2: Snowboard boots

i'd like to get some feedback, this is a big project and i want it to be good enough to get into the game. here's a screenshot of the blender window as it is right now.[dl.dropboxusercontent.com]

Doesn't an item exactly like that already exist?
hmm i don't know... does it? anyways, i haven't seen an entire set like that, so...

I don't know about the goggles, but for sure the beanie is in-game already (troublemaker's tosslecap).

It looks good so far. Make sure to use smoothing groups (edgesplits) around the edges of the frame so that you don't get that jagged appearance.
jagged? what do you mean?
also, i forgot to say that the hat is a bit "opened", because i'll make the goggles pass inside the hat, and when i finish them i'll adjust the hat again.
oh, yeah, i will do that later, when i start with the UV unrwaping, i always mark the sharp edges and then the seams.
Finished with the modeling part, now i'm gonna go with the textures.

i'll try what i can get with the textures, and show it here.
Also some feedback would be great!

Not bad :) Looking really good! Make sure to spend 2 times as much time texturing it as you did modeling it! It's a good rule of thumb to get really good textures. Here's hoping it will turn out great.
That's the problem... i'm 10 times better modeler than texturer... (at least that's my own opinion)
not meaning that i make worse textures, but that they take me much more time to make.

Well it's always more fulfilling to do the whole thing yourself, but if you really feel like you could use help, there are ALWAYS people available to texture your models. I know some people do this for a living basically. The downside is that you'll have to split the revenue if it ships.
That could be a solution, but I always will try to do all by myself first, and if i can't get the results i expect, then go for some help.
Well, i was thinking on the textures (because i want to get a solid idea before starting) and i had an idea, i think it's good, but i want to know your opinions:
Make the hat part team colored, and the goggles of a very dark oposite team colored (like, red hat and dark dark blue goggles). Then the glass (it's plastic, but meh) would be orange and shiny.
Then, i had ideas too for when it gets in game (if ever), adding 3 styles, wich are only usefull when painting it:
1- Painting the item paints only the hat
2- Painting it paints only the goggles
3- The paint is applyed to both the hat and the goggles.
I'll give it a try, but if you have any better ideas, please leave them here

I think everything sounds solid. I personally would leave the yellow/orange goggle piece unpaintable.
the glass isn't going to be paintable, it'll be always orange (or the color i see that fits better)
Well, i came up with something. Here are the beta textures for RED and BLU.[dl.dropboxusercontent.com]
