How do you sort your library?
I only have a relatively small number of games compared to a lot of the people around here, but I still thought it would be a good idea to have a system to sort my library. That way, when/if I end up having hundreds or thousands of games, it won't be excruciatingly painful to organize them all. Here are the categories I use:

100% Complete
Any games I've earned all the achievements for go here.

Backlog - 100%
Any games I eventually intend to 100% go here. This is the only category that can have duplicates from other categories.

Complete - Main Content
Any games that I've completed the main content for (usually the main story), but haven't earned all the achievements for (or there are no achievements) go here.

Incomplete - Main Content
Any games that I haven't completed the main content for go here.

Multiplayer
A lot of multiplayer-only games don't really have a main content set that can be "completed" per se, so I made a category specifically for them.

Other
Any games that (somehow) don't fit into any of the above categories go here. Right now, it only consists of a single abandoned early access game (I suppose it would be fitting to put it in the incomplete category, but... I don't know, I like singling it out like this).

I also usually only show my installed games. If a game is uninstalled, it's probably because I don't intend to play it anytime soon.

How do you guys sort your libraries?

I have about 40 categories for different genres of games which I'm either still working on or haven't started. Then there's a small category for games I tried and just couldn't make myself finish. Two categories for games that 1) have bugs or 2) don't run on Windows 10. A category for games that I have from bundles or random gifts that I don't intend to ever play. And three categories for games I've "finished" 1) Finished along with all achievements 2) Finished along with all achievements but the game has replay-ability or 3) Finished but don't have all the achievements (games with achievements that are broken or I think I just can't get go in here).

By far genre is the most important sorting factor for me and it really bugs me that Steam has all these tags for every game but doesn't let you sort by them once you buy it. Luckily there are lots of online helpers for this so you can easily find multiplayer games and what-not in your library.

My sorting:

Achievement hell:
games that I'm "finished" with but will/might sometimes return to to complete more achievements.

Currently playing:
games that I'm currently into, since theres only a handful of games that I currently play.

DLC Quest:
A duplicates folder for games that have/will have expansions that I don't own. aka will probably need to update achivements once I get those.

Done:
For games that I don't want to touch ever again. This includes both 100%s and games that I have no intention of ever suffering though.

Tried out:
Games that are ok, could complete more achievements there but not in any rush. I'd rather play more interesing games but this is like a backlog folder for games to eventually return to.

WTF do?:
games that I have no idea how they function lol. Need a clear focused mind to play, whenever I get in the mood to figure them out.

Repeat play:
Multiplayers, RNG games, multi playthough games etc.

Favorites - a default group with obvious contents

Beta - for the few beta versions of games in my library

Casual - good casual games that I may or may not have completed but will probably return to casually

Complete - games I have completed and will not likely return to unless more content becomes available

Disliked - few games fall in this category but it contains stuff that I genuinely did not like and will not likely complete

Documentary - for the few documentaries I have like Indie Game: The Movie

Multiplayer - games I may or may not have completed that I see myself coming back to for the multiplayer experience. Multiplayer games that I have completed and will not return to just go to the Complete category

Other - games I don't like but don't dislike. I suspect I just haven't given many of these games a fair shot but I still don't see myself playing. I purchased the original dragon age a few years ago and played it for maybe 30 min. Didn't grab me and didn't ever return to it for whatever reason. Now it sits in Other.

Unorganized - this is pretty much my to-play list and is by far the largest. If something sits in there for too long I'll probably just move it to Other. Games get moved back here from complete if they have more content added.

I keep it simple, working with the Steam library is too much of a hassle.

I have:
100% Completed
Has Achievements
No Achievements

That's it. I favorite the games I'm currently playing, and a few interesting looking games remain unsorted until I decide if I want to play them or not (they remain at the bottom of the list until I categorize them).

I use a keyboard macro to assign a category with a single press of a button, and even then it was a huge chore to initially organize my entire library. Any change to my structure would mean going through every game manually once more, and at 3 seconds per game it'd still take almost 3 hours without breaks.

I didn't even know you could do this. How do you make your own categories? I dont see where to put one in.
Going to make one to filter to multiplayer games ^^

Right click on a game in your library and select "Set Categories".

Thank you! This will make things so much easier :D

To be honest, I don't sort my games out lol, I just play whatever game I feel like playing, Then I just achieve the achievements that I want to.

Most of the time it takes me a long time to 100% a game because of this. I don't always feel like playing a certain game.. Like HomeFront, I did about 75% of the single player achievements and I'm too bored of it to complete the other single player ones.

Games - everything unplayed

Finished - earned all achievements and finished all content

Achievements Remaining - finished game content but haven't finished all achievements

Unwanted, Broken, Multiplayer, Misc - garbage games I have no intention of playing

3D Realms Collection - wanted to keep all of these titles in one spot

Yeah, this isn't ideal. I'm trying to work out a better categorization system.

The date specific achievement section is a great idea. I'll have to add that.

I can, but I prefer not to.

My categories are as follows:

100% - Pretty self explanatory, this is the games I have all achievements in and have uninstalled.

Given to me - These are games friends of mine gave to me. I give them their own category since I'd like them to not languish in my backlog for too long

Lacks windowed mode - Games I'm interested in, but they don't let me play windowed and no tricks I've tried to force windowed work. I hate fullscreen so this is pretty much the bottom of the backlog and actually ranks lower than the non-achievement games.

Has Broken Achievements - Basically all the games with broken achievements. Some I did start before knowing achievements were broken, the rest I didn't start. Also is basically the I've gotten all the achievements I can except the broken ones category basically.

No achievements - all the 200 or so games that lack achievements I have hope will get them someday. Basically the bottom of the backlog and mstly stuff I got from bundles that had games I was more interested in. But I've had a few that later got achievements, so that was a nice thing.

Non-steam - The non-steam stuff. Basically this consists of the RetroAchievements emulators and some Japanese PC games.

Not going to bother with - Games I have zero interest in, but cannot remove from my library without losing a game I am interested in.

Not started - this is the meat and potatoes of my Steam backlog. The 400+ games I've earned zero achievements in. I've technically started a few, but didn't earn achievements in them so they stayed here.

Unfinished - all the games that have achievements left that I can earn. Also in here is a couple of to play soon ones, usually stuff I plan to start within a week or so.

I also have no categories, the closest I come to sorting anything is clicking recent or installed when I open my library. I know my way around the mess though, it's not too bad.
