Removing achievements from your account
I was wondering if this is possible, so I sent a request with some questions to the support. Since the response is not in english I'll short it and try to translate.

I asked if they could do it or I could use some external software to remove (I said REMOVE, not unlock) achievements from my account. You must be asking "Why do you want to remove an achievement from your account?". Well, there's two situations here. One is normal and the other bothers me A LOT. Let me explain the normal first: I farmed ( I said FARMED) achievements in CSGO of weapons I never use. Now I want to play normal to get them.

Now the worst. Back in 2009 my achievement addict started. I had around 20 games in this account and Half Life and TF2 were the only games with achievements I had. So I spent hours farming TF2 achievements. The deal is one day I joined a server for farming and typed a command suggested by mods without knowing ("!achievement"). Got most of them unlocked. Then I sent a ticket explaining my situation and scared of being banned they said it was ok and they couldn't do nothing about it. I reported the server after it. In 2012 I started collecting achievements for real and I had to stop playing TF2 because of these "cheated" achievements. I don't like how they appear in my profile (Sep, 6 2009) and I will never play it again if I can't remove them.

Now back to the response I got: It's my own risk using any tool to remove them from my account. They know nothing about how it really works. All responsabilities go to the software creator. Using it will not VAC ban me (Ok this part is the worse. That mean the people who use it to unlock are safe. Bad move, Valve. Terrible) since VAC is only related to cheats in-game for getting advantage against other players.

I want to know if there's a tool for this and if it's cool to risk. If anyone used it to remove achievements from your account before. Even the support saying it will not get me banned and it's not against the rules removing, I'm still worried. (I'm talking about removing, not unlocking.)

It is the same tool as for unlocking them. But using it is probably frowned upon in this community.

There's the point. I'm still worried. I was reading some thread around the forum and found some people who can't unlock the locked achievements anymore. It's glitched. I'm stuck with it

The ability to unlock achievements after you re-lock them with external tools really depends on the game. Over on Astats, we see tons of people that re-lock their tf2 achievements in order to gain them in a legitimate way, and they have always been able to unlock them a second time.

I think you'll be just fine, with both CSGO and TF2. And no, there's no risk of anything like VAC bans or anything.

Well, I'm thinking about re-locking some achievements too, so that means we can re-lock achievements without having risk of being banned, since I'm thinking about re-locking my DOD:S and CSS weapons achievements and other games such as PAYDAY: The Heist.

Steam Achievement Manager. Search it on Google.
I used it a lot to erase achievements to unlock them again.
It's safe if you're not playing any game VAC protected.

Yeah, as said, you can use SAM to lock your achievements, re-unlocking the achievements afterwards should works fine for most games but sometimes you will have to remove your save files or make a new account (for f2p games mostly), basically, you will have to trigger the achievement again. Anyway, one tip : don't play any games while using it, you may get Vac-banned if you use it when you are on a vac-secured server, so just don't.

Should work fine with steam achievement manager. I did this with Evoland. I was playing on a computer of a friend of mine and when I launched Evoland, the save data of my friend was loaded, tho I was on my steam account. Suddenly, all achievements poped up (except the boss fight achievement). I used steam achievement manager to remove the achievement and got them normally. No problems at all.

I feel I should add a word of warning here. Although this process is useful for people who want to clear their achievements because they want to start over and get them again it cannot be used to improve your overall achievement rate by removing ALL achievements in a game. Although SAM removes these achievements correctly the games are still counted in your profile and because your achievement percentage becomes zero this actually makes your overall percentage worse. Normally Steam doesn't count games where you have no achievements (yet), even if you have played them, but it doesn't seem possible to remove games entirely.

I felt I should point this out because I myself am stuck with a number of games where I have just a few achievements from a few Christmas sales back that I don't really enjoy playing that now really drag my average percentage down. I also know other players are in a similar predicament. Unfortunately SAM can't help with this as it is.

The word SAM sickens me. Why you guys keep advertising that $hit even for re-lock achievements? Forget it! Dig it deep. Damn ...

Making fuss about re-lock achievements is also meaningless. There are million of achievements out there, get some other.

Unless the creator of SAM ran over your dog (on purpose) I really don't understand where all this anger is coming from.

As Corsario pointed out using SAM for the purpose of relocking achievements is acceptable over on Astats, which as you should know, several of the high-ups in this group are actively involved in. Likewise this group only has the rule that you should achieve your own achievements. Although this includes using SAM to unlock achievements it says nothing about removing them. And of course the rules of this group aren't actually enforced (if such a thing were even possible) as it is after all a public group. Whether you like it or not SAM is a useful tool for the problem the op is dealing with. And tools aren't inherently evil, it depends on who is using them.

And please try to be a bit more polite and helpful when voicing your opinions in the future. You haven't actually contributed anything useful to this thread and this group is intended for people who are trying to help other players rather than to be generally rude and unpleasant.

I downloaded SAM then I panicked and deleted it when I saw "Team fortess 2 - In-game". God dammit

I'm feeling a bit safe after your comments, Arveragus. I'll try it again later.

Another thing:

You were talking about my overall percentage. Can I select the achievements (the ones who are "cheated") or I have to lock ALL of them. Including the ones I got by normal means and farming.

You can lock the ones you want, since I locked my CSS and DOD:S weapon achievements without having to lock all achievements

XD! You answered my long unanswered question... I've been wondering if I were to remove the stupid achievements from games that I'll never want to 100% if they'll set me back to 0% (dragging my overall % down even more) or to the "never achieved an achievement in this game status" (in which case the overall % would go up).

I really hate that I even started playing the game A Virus Named Tom and would love to get rid of the few achievements I've gotten and completely annihilate that game from my life.

Knowing that deleting the achieves in games that I've achieved only 1% in won't impact my overall % (at least in a good way) is good to know.

Thanks!

[Also, I hate games that give you an achievement just for "Starting the Game"... WhoopDeeDoo! I pressed "play" and I got an achievement... and the game is dumb or not much fun or I really don't want to take the time right now to 100% it... so now my overall % completion is dragged way down. PixelJunk Eden, although actually an interesting game now that I'm getting into it (months later), comes to mind as an example.]

Same situation here. :( Wish Valve had implemented a better system for achievements ;(
