Do any other completionists out there hate multiplayer?
So this has been an issue for me many times before, but the two most recent examples are Assassins Creed Black Flag for the PS4 and Tomb Raider here on Steam.

I loved AC Flag to death and I have 100% completion...for single player. I would love the platinum trophy but multiplayer is just miserable to me. Tomb Raider is also a game that I'm really loving right now and I'd love to 100% it, but the thought of touching multiplayer.. well that's just not gonna happen.

I feel like I'm the only one left in the gaming world who despises this shift in mentality to "everything must have competitive multiplayer". It would be one thing if the achievements were separate or something, but it's like I have no chance to complete some of the games I truly love because the devs had to staple on a deathmatch mode in order to market the game to Coddys -_-

I'm just kinda curious what kind of views and insights members of a completionist group have on this issue.

You are not alone. I dont like the multiplayer, but i loved these games you mentioned. The multiplayer in such games is kind of an extra game to me. The singleplayer tells a story, but in the multiplayer you have to create one by yourself. My problem is, that there are a lot of other people, want to tell a different story. Well, for this i dont need a game... ;-)
I loathe multiplayer achievements *but* I love 100% Achievements Group for coordinating efforts to accumulate them cooperatively. :)

For the most part I avoid multiplayer in games and purchase based on game mechanics or narrative (mostly single player components).

I hate vs, but love coop when it's a decent game

Ah yes, I forgot about coop (I guess because most of the times it sucks lol) but I really love Borderlands and the Mass Effect 3 coop modes

i hate when we need "friends" for 1 achievement.

In most cases a well designed multiplayer doesn't need achievements. One of the worst achievement blunders a developer can make is creating a half-realized MP mode and then tossing in a bunch of achievements to try and force players to use it.

Oftentimes it doesn't help that the more tacked on the multiplayer is, the more ridiculous the achievements trying to get you to play it.

That's not to say that all MP achievements are bad. But it's hilariously terrible game design when a publisher demands an SP game also have multiplayer and the devs feel the need to use achievements as the incentive to cover up that the MP sucks.

I hate mulitplayer/co-op achievements because I don't have friends. :epiczombie:

i prefer multiplayer.
single player bores me.

It depends on the achievement. If you need like 4+ players together to get it, it's starting to get annoying. (ppl no showing, leaving after getting the achievement, etc.)

Coop actually doesn't phase me too much, it's the "reach level 50 in multiplayer", "win a ranked match on all 200 DLC maps" etc.

To each their own :) but out of curiosity where do single player games fall short for you? Like are you just a competitive person as far as your personality goes? Or do you just find game stories to not be all that engaging?
I mean no offense in any way, just trying to get a new perspective :)

I'm highly competetive and I generally prefer to get my ~100 hours of story-time from a book. I have other hobbies which satisfy introspection.

Ah lol I should probably read more, I'm sure it would be much better for my eyes XD

I'm with you, I hated the mp acheivements in all AC games, and it's one of my favorite franchises.

My friends are also achievement hunters so it's pretty fun to complete multiplayer games.
