Steam now limits developers to 5000 achievements per game
Surprised no one has said anything about this, but according to this thread on Reddit it appears that Valve has recently implemented a 5,000 achievement cap for new games on Steam.

This should help stem the constant stream of crappy 5K+ achievement farm "games" that have been getting dumped on us for the last year or so. It appears this has not gone unnoticed by Valve after all. Good on them for taking some kind of action. :B1:

It's probably to not limit the achievements themselves but to avoid any technical issues in future. 5k achievements is quite a lot anyway.

Yeah, that could be. Either way I think it's a good move that was a long time coming.

Even that's too many, but at least there's SOME limit.

I think 1k would really be enough for even any huge game with a lot of DLC achievements.

Just look at this: http://steamcommunity.com/stats/625400/achievements

^This. If there wasn't a hard limit someone would probably end up breaking the system at some point by adding too many.

In any case, this will definitely accelerate people's lack of interest in those games.

Well I regretted very much for playing the spam achievement games. You don't need any skill to unlock the achievements. All spam games are done in less 1 hour. I will look forward and prefer achievements that is worth to get with a bit challenge in there.. I really regret playing for some spam achievements like Zup, Slash it and few other. You guys really think it's called achievement hunting to buy spam games who can be done by a 3 years old child? If you are a noob you can go for it. If you want to get better AVG% or perfects go on it. But Please don't call you a achievement hunter do not blame on yourself. I blame the devs who made the spam achievements. Just destroy the feeling about hunting cheevos. R.I.P. Just saying how sad it is.

I don't think you really have the authority to decide whether or not someone else considers themself as an achievement hunter.

The limit doesn't retroactively affect old achievements, it just prevents new achievements from being added if 5000 or more have already been created.

achievement hunters farming achievements and we dont have time to browse reddit:-D thanks for info.

i would be more happy if it would be 1500 and indie games should have a limit of 100. that could be more even for indie games if developers prove that it comes with real content. Well, wishes, but at least so we wont see games with 100k achievements.

I don't think it's really fair to put such a ridiculously low limit on indie developers compared to other developers. If indie developers aren't trustworthy then they shouldn't be on the store in the first place, so assuming they can't be trusted by default doesn't make a whole lot of sense. And besides, it wouldn't necessarily even solve the problem. All the developer would have to do is "prove themselves", and then add more achievements later on.

Also, how exactly would a developer "prove that it comes with real content"? Valve doesn't have time to individually check every single game. And how are we defining "real content" anyway?

The fact that there's a limit at all is enough on its own. Imposing further restrictions on certain developers and limiting their access to the Steam API (especially when they're giving a sizeable chunk of their earnings to Valve) is just not a good idea.

What about this game?

http://store.steampowered.com/app/656270/Its_Village/

These "achievements" should be new...

Btw.: Have a look at the name of the game that is advertised and the one you can buy...it's not the same lol
