All of the above would be perfect advertising lines for this ''Adults only'' rated first person hack-and-slash game taking place in the graphic and visceral imagining of Hell first introduced in Agony.

(If it hasn't become obvious yet, this game is NOT for anyone who is underage, sensitive, can't stand nudity, sight of blood, or anything graphic, really.)

The excuse plot of the game is basically as follows:

Vydija, a succubus and a servant to the Red Goddess who rose to become the queen of Hell has been dethroned and humiliated by Baphomet, a demon loyal to Lucifer who refuses to tolerate the rule of Red Goddess. Are you a bad enough succubus to take revenge on Baphomet and slaughter all those who try to stop you?


The game itself is effectively a slaughterhouse, with Vydija ''Rip and Tear your Guts!'' -ing through the damned humans and demons of hell alike, with occassional boss fights and optional sex scenes thrown in the mix.

What the game lacks in sophisticated fighting mechanics and challenge, it makes up for with sheer visceral bloodiness and creative ways to kill your enemies with. Vydija is nothing short of vicious in battle. She can crush, decapitate, impale, vivisect and bisect her enemies with swords, staves, hammers, scythes, dual daggers – you name it. And if you want more variety or additional ranged attacks in addition to the bow, there are also several spells to customize and choose from.

As the setting is a grotesque re-imagining of Hell as depicted by Dante's Inferno, the environment is not only dangerous, but offers alternative methods to kill your enemies creatively. Such as kicking them into tentacles, meathooks, pools of lava or even into gaping mouths formed in the walls of flesh.


The overall tone is somewhat on the comedic side. Nude demons and violence to the point it feels cartoonish, the sheer audacity of Vydija healing herself by forcibly aborting damned women, and a lot of the commentary provided by the Shade, some of which give little respect to the fourth wall.


THE GOOD / DEMONIC

+ Lot of customization options

+ High quality graphics

+ Demons come in a variety of different designs

+ Several levels show the devs have certainly done their homework on Dante's Inferno


THE BAD / ANGELIC

- Game tries far too hard to be edgy enough to cut you more often than not

- Voice acting falls squarely into ''so terrible it's hilarious'' (Vydija's default voice sounds like a bad and monotonous Yzma impression)

- Simplified combat mechanics likely won't satisfy anyone who expects a more advanced action experience

- Customization for Vydija's appearance has little relevance outside some cutscenes due to the game being in first person

- Many flaws, such as animation errors, dialogue and subtitles not matching or subtitles missing are glaringly obvious


VERDICT

6-6,5 / 10

Is Succubus a high quality game? Absolutely not. It's far closer to a B-grade horror porn film that emphasizes edginess in everything. However, it can nevertheless be a decently entertaining hack-and-slash experience, if you can handle all the over-the-top violence and exaggerated amounts of nudity.

Plus, the various demons and the lore behind them shows that MadMind Studio appears to be legitimately serious about making the universe of their games, 'The World of Agony', a reality.


And I am willing to see what they have to offer in the future.

What a scam... Just bought this game and there is a forced censorship mode you cannot turn off. I want a refund.
