Recommendations for innovative and memorable games with excellent stories and a focus on narrative.

Games recommended here have at least one (preferably all three) of these qualities:

[+] Fantastic stories. Fascinating characters, different perspectives, unique settings: a step above the beaten path. Whether it's thousands of words of well written dialogue, or a brief but strong experience heavier in implication than exposition, we crave a good story.

[+] Non-game experience. This is very open to interpretation, but we're always looking for games that lean more towards "interesting experience" rather than standard gameplay. Interactive art, movie, or novel? Ambiguous endings leaving the whole story up to the player? Popular tags including "experimental" and "walking simulator"? We play & love them all.

[+] Unique & innovative. Whether it's the storyline, gameplay, or a neat combination of both, we're looking for games that offer something new and different from the norm.


We're always looking for something new and fun, so if you're not sure it fits here, post it anyway and see what happens.

Naturally we have a focus on small titles, indie games, and overlooked gems. But we accept recs of any type of game based on the criteria above, as long as you feel like the game has that special something.

Please note that this group was created in the idea of having an archive of interesting and unusual games, not necessarily an active hang-out or chat group, and it's activity very much depends on its members throwing out some recommendations every once in a while. So don't hesitate to go on the forums and make your own rec list. We really want to know what you like!
