One of the biggest problems with Beat for Speed is the COMPLETE LACK OF TRANSPARENCY surrounding its use of generative AI. Concerns about the game's code, the music featured in the demo and the translations have been raised repeatedly within the community for quite some time, yet the developers have never provided a clear response. There is no AI disclosure on the Steam store page and when criticism started appearing in reviews of the demo the demo's store page conveniently disappeared. None of this exactly inspires confidence and to me it feels like just another example of the AI slop that flooded Steam Next Fest. Refunded.

The game's code is relatively easy to access, and a look through it reveals all the hallmarks of vibe coding. The translations are riddled with awkward phrasing and obvious machine translation mistakes, suggesting little to no proofreading. The game itself gets flagged as potential malware by antivirus software and there have even been reports of it collecting user data without consent in the past. What a mess.

As for the gameplay, it follows the Audiosurf formula almost to the letter, without bringing much of anything new to the table. It's a concept that has already proven itself. In the demo, most Workshop uploads were simply automatically generated charts reuploaded without any modifications and I wouldn't be surprised if the full game's Workshop ends up flooded with more of the same.

Overall the game feels completely devoid of personality. Rather than a carefully crafted experience with a strong creative identity, it comes across as a collection of automatically produced assets thrown together with little attention to detail.

Very cool idea with seemingly very minimal effort put towards it. Its more of a lame visualizer than a game. Apparently there was also undisclosed AI usage. I don't know on all that. The music atleast does seem real. Assets and maps look fine enough if kind of thrown together. Not really the point though. Regardless how it was made, its just not fun.

ABSOLUTE BLAST TO PLAY. It satisfies the itch of wanting to go for a fast late night drive with music basting, even when I have nowhere I need to drive to. PRO TIP: Listen to Illenium. Trust.

Some things I love:
1. I like that it shifts color schemes frequently to keep me focused and engaged, they all look beautiful.
2. I love that hitting the glow shields makes a satisfying sound but isn't so loud it interrupts my music.
3. I LOVE THAT I CAN USE MY OWN PLAYLISTS!!!

Some things I don't like:
1. Sometimes the glow shields don't hit on what I think the obvious right beats are, and it takes me out of the immersion. Maybe that's just a side effect of the live audio mode that's in experimentation still.
2. I can't control when to switch scenery -- it automatically wrests control from me and warps me to a new track after travelling a certain distance, which interrupts the song and sometimes moves me to a new scene when I was still enjoying the previous one. I wish I could toggle with RT or something to warp by choice -- that would even allow me to time it to a section of a song that would fit the warp animation. More than once I was pissed off that my controls were removed and I had to watch a 5ish-second loading animation in the middle of a song when I was grooving.

OVERALL it's amazing, I've been hyped for release since seeing early footage on TikTok months ago, and it does not disappoint.

Cat color

hi, I know you probably got your hands full on release day, but I was wondering if there was a way to switch the cat fur color, I have a black cat irl named pepsi and I would love to have him on the motorcycle, Being random its such a noble concept but I think having the ability to choose get cat owners to have a more inmerse experience to have their irl cat on the game, I know, small detail but it would be nice as an early purchase, thanks

About That Track Editor

It has no business being that complex. I know it's probably never going to be touched but oh man it's all over the place. Feels like Halo 3 forge; if you want to make anything good you really need to know your stuff.

Why game not showing all artists?

Without going thru and checking each and every one. the most notable is Amon Amarth akino arai, air supply, ajad, and a whole slew of As. I have hundreds of artist folders in my music folder and hundreds of thousands of music files. This game is only showing about 15% of what I have. in other words i have 3.50tb of music on my drive. game is only showing about 500 gb...
