Merry christmas, have a great one!

well shadows ARE indeed apart of this surely
but ive set most do lowest or OFF.
and it had no impact

even pcgamer did this, and found the in game settings to do almost nothing prior to 1.2
(not 1.3)

so its my guess 1.3 didnt do much for ya, its 1.3 and maybe a clean driver install.
sadly again this game isnt working properly, its working, yep
but even mates with 100+ hrs downvoted the game after 4 play throughs
just a headache. tsk on arkane and im glad its working better for someone mate!
happy holidays!

I have massively improved my games performance by going to quality settings turn shadows down to at LEAST medium. My performance became completely stable no stuttering.
Must be a shadow buffering issue

most people smart ones dont use geforce experience.
a few mates of mine and I saw hitting optimize cause issues long ago. no one beleived us

I hate "GE" it does nothing I cant do in inspector or nvid panel(oh drivers)
the tip is to actuallly just DELETE the config, which has been said many times

but ty for a fix for some users who might not have known to do that.. or not known to NOT use geforce exp

Just incase anyone is stuck at the black screen on start-up like I was, I thought I would post what fixed it for me.

Go to C: \ Users \ Steam \ SavedGames \ Arkane Studios \ dishonored2 \ base
Open the file: dishonored2Config.cfg with Notepad. Or just copy paste dishonored2Config.cfg in your searchbar on Windows.

Find this value: r_mode "18"
Change the value to: r_mode "19". Make sure to save the file.

It turns out that applying Geforce Experience optimal settings was changing my file back to "18" causing the game to black screen, so I will avoid that until there is a fix.

I am now able to play the game and I hope you are, too.

urmm that was like 19 months ago mate..
been well over a year since that (but I remember those days)
its why im saying its so messed up to FORCE a beta patch as a legit patch with no options to roll back or go vanilla..

so if you are opted into beta 1.2 and opt out, nothing happens the files are the SAME. aka its a beta patch..

I miss the setting steam had for NEVER UPDATE THIS GAME!
Revalopod Nov 27, 2016 @ 9:25pm
wow, last time I checked there was the option to not update......
Kaldire Nov 27, 2016 @ 6:38pm
@deathswagga have you been under a rock?
steam no longer lets you pick nor have the option to "do not update this game"
its now "update only when launching the game"

there is no DISABLE for updates
and this isnt opting into ANYTHING
1.2 is the patch you MUST have to play the damned game, get it right
you cannot roll back to 1.1 nor 1.0 vanilla ever.. period.

the drm has nothing to do with it..
its the way steam is now. and the lame devs pushing a beta patch forced vs a real tested patch.

go right click the game and check, steam removed the disable updates LONG TIME AGO

Unless the DRM prevents you from playing the game if you have an earlier version
Revalopod Nov 27, 2016 @ 4:18pm
It's not mandatory, you can easily opt put of downloading automatic updates. I think you can do ot by rick clicking on the game
