Playtest Reward: How to Recruit Tichingitu?

We deeply appreciate everyone who helped us during the testing phase. If you earned the Rank 5 achievement during the playtest — you'll be able to recruit a unique officer, Tichingitu.

Instructions: after meeting Alskold and completing the mummy powder delivery quest, a special dialogue line will appear that triggers a mini-quest for him to join your crew. Don't miss it — or the native warrior is gone for good!

Technical Improvements and Launcher

We've done a lot of work on the engine and overall game experience:

New launcher: you can now directly select your monitor and GPU before launching the game.
AMD stability: frequent crashes on AMD 6xxx–9xxx GPUs have been fixed, which also improved stability for NVIDIA cards.
Playtest bugs: the majority of critical issues and inaccuracies identified during testing have been fixed.

Steam Achievements

As promised — available from day one. The first batch of 40+ achievements is already waiting to be unlocked in-game! Some of them are hidden...

Heads up: achievement hunters, stay sharp — the list will keep growing with upcoming updates.

Ahoy, this is the lead developer — Konstrush. There's something I want to say personally. Let's go.

Looking at the final result, it's hard to believe how far this project has come. Caribbean Legend: Age of Pirates started as a desire to fix a few rough spots in the original — technical and visual. But it grew into an official remaster that pays tribute to that very spirit of pirate romance. The one that made us fall in love, on first launch, with the sound of waves and the creak of the deck.

The project was born on pure enthusiasm — fueled by arguments about what the perfect corsair game should look like. There were moments of despair, heated clashes, technical dead ends, and sleepless nights. But your support and belief in the team kept us going. This release is the result of thousands of hours of work and a deep love for the original.

There were many questions from players, but we will only answer the most important ones.

Q: Can I purchase the game anywhere other than the Steam store?

A: No. Other platforms are not being considered at this time. If anything changes, we will announce it on our official channels.

Q: How did the playtest for developers go?

A: It was a valuable experience for our team. You could say it was a dress rehearsal before the release. And it was successful and ran at a very high pace - there were many players, bug reports were processed on the fly, and the feedback from players was mostly positive.

Q: Will you have time to fix and add everything?

A: All the most critical soft locks, blockers, and issues have already been fixed.

Q: How can I get the Native American companion upon the game's release? Will they be with me right away?

A: Not exactly. You'll have to rescue them from the clutches of Fadey Askold. Ironic...

Q: Will playtest saves work with the release version of the game?

A: Absolutely NOT. Even if they miraculously load, there will be plenty of bugs. We ask you not to do this. Support will be denied for such saves.

Q: Will there be autosaves at release?

A: We'll rely on player feedback. Possibly, we'll add this functionality in critically important places.

Q: Why isn't there ship aiming like in CL?

A: Ship aiming is a development by the studio BlackMark Studio. They informed us that they will help us port this mechanic, but only when it is fully polished and finalized in its concept. We ourselves are waiting for this moment, so it will come after release.

Q: Will there be a character creation system, like in other RPGs?

A: The AoP character creation system already provides more freedom than in CL. If only because you can choose a nation and any P.I.R.A.T.E.S. characteristics. In the future, we will improve the character creation system with various traits and backgrounds. As for a visual character editor, we are unlikely to take that step.

Q: What will happen to the Blood storyline? Do you plan to expand it?

A: Perhaps not everyone noticed, but we have already expanded it up to the arrival in Tortuga, although this was not originally part of our plans. However, if all the stars align - then the continuation of Blood's adventures will happen. Moreover, work in this direction is already slowly but surely underway.

Q: Why don't you have the same ships as in CL?

A: There are three reasons for this:

Balance. Our ship fleet compared to the original has been significantly reworked. There are more ships and the balance has changed a bit.
Stylistics. In AoP, the ship fleet is more diverse and differs from what is in CL. Replacing all models with higher quality ones won't work. We don't want strong disparities in the quality and style of ships at sea.
Remaster. Our task was to fix the old, not to make models from scratch: improving textures and sail behavior, fixing errors in models and cannon locators (so that forward chase guns don't tear their own ship's sails), etc.

However, the Cinco Llagas unexpectedly received a completely new and reworked magnificent model! Thanks for that to comrade Phoeny.

Q: Will you bring back item bonuses?

A: ...

Q: Will special attention be paid to mod support?

A: Currently, Steam Workshop support is planned from release.

Q: Will the scripts be open immediately upon release?

A: To our and your regret - no. We respect and approve of any efforts to modify the game to your liking, but we already received bug reports during the playtest stage with altered game files. Scripts will be opened after some time, when we are confident in the game's stability without modifications.

Q: Will there be more heroes? I'd like to play as Beatrice or Jessica.

A: I think that over time the number of heroes will increase through updates or through modifications.

Regarding female characters... Believe me, the fact that Danielle Greene is present in the release is, so to speak, a "Critical Success". Without exaggeration, I can say that implementing this idea required a huge amount of resources, knowledge, and perseverance.
Just look at the list of works and any dissatisfaction that female characters were deliberately cut from CL should disappear.:

retargeting new animations from the male skeleton (by Wazar),
improved Danielle model (by karlik.nos),
unique dialogue lines for the female character,
a new localization system for other languages (by Mr.Tehon and Wazar),
manual refinement of animations to add femininity to movements (by Antix),
balancing all animations, testing, and other details.

Thanks to everyone who helped us in this challenging implementation. Without your help, this would not have been possible!

However, we already have some work in progress for Beatrice and Jessica, but they are far from completion.

Q: Will there be achievements at release?

A: Most likely - yes. But in the future, their number will likely expand.

Q: Will the game be supported further? Will there be DLCs?

A: We would very much like to continue developing and improving this remaster. And we already have certain plans for the future, as well as concepts for future DLCs.

In any case, everything depends on how our launch goes at release.

And, well, that's enough for today. We've answered the most important questions as thoroughly as possible this time. Alas, a quest diary is not meant to be - instead, we gave full access to all content during the playtest so you could evaluate everything yourselves without spoilers.

This is you, after 2 years of development of Caribbean Legend!

Once again, "Jorub Team" is trying to prey on adults' nostalgia and sell them a broken version of a childhood game.
Enough already. It's time to forget and let go — childhood won't return, and neither will the old thrills of a new game.
Akella made a bunch of games and sold them under different names:
1. Sea Dogs
2. Pirates of the Caribbean
3. Age of Pirates: Caribbean Tales
4. Corsairs: Legend is back
5. City of Abandoned Ships
6. Pirates Odyssey: To Each His Own

Even Akella understood that this crooked Russian creation wouldn't sell in the West with the same name.
But publisher was completely obtuse, not realizing the obvious:
1. His loyal servants would buy the game anyway
2. Those who had already met this glitchdrome would never buy it again!

Publisher overwhelmed by his own grandeur.
Franchise's creation and the publisher's laziness will finally destroy this development story.

This game is bugged so much it wont even launch properly. tried every trick in the book to get it to launch but everytime it freezes and will not respond.

Carribean Legend: Age of Pirates

background experience:
First of all, I played their more older and previous series, the "City of Abandoned Ships", about 14 years ago or so.

I do not know anything regarding the direct previous "Carribean Legend" from 2024, but "Sea Dogs: To Each His Own" is what I played as well recently, about 4 years ago.

Basic review and gameplay of the game without comparison first of all:
You have your character, you have your ship, you have a level up system, and you can give your chars items such as different kinds of pistols or swords.

You can choose your ships, you can edit their appearance, or even modify them at a certain place.
You choose which kind of cannons you want etc.

But regarding the story, this is something where the player has free will in how it develops and how you play the game.
1. You can be a pirate
2. You can be a trader
3. You can even join the given factions such as England
... or adventure around as you wish, or even do EVERYTHING with the same character.

The story can be mysterious and unique, without spoilers, or sometimes feel like a perpetual side story such as:
"Find this person and sneak into the town. He will give you something... and come back in 40 days..."
We all kind of know this type of questline from thousands of other games, and it still keeps us players

Now going to the comparing and critical part:

Graphics:
Yes, it feels polished... a bit.
Comparing it to the trend of the 2020-ish, I wouldn't mind having more details such as stronger vegetation, slightly bigger towns, or particle effects like dust being blown by the wind.

For those who play this game for the first time, it still feels like the graphics are running on a 2010-ish game engine. Probably even using the same engine that has been used since the early development years of the first Sea Dogs game.

Movement, combat, immersion:
The character slides periodically if the terrain is too uneven.

The combat system feels very old school with, if I counted correctly, about 6 moves (heavy, light, parries, etc.), each with different animations being replayed.

Regarding the ship, it's simple control with WASD, nothing complicated like naval action.

For those who play this game for the first time and have no geographical background or historical idea, let me say this: "I envy you."

Because for you, that means you can immerse yourself in the game and you might need to buy a map in the game itself, probably the "old map", which is very rough descripted and costs about 5000+ pesos in game currency. If you do not have it, then have fun exploring the unknown world by yourself. :-)

"The game can be better", and I hope this message is being read by our ReCon Team as well as the publishers.

A) As mentioned, the graphics need to be on a newer standard
B) The combat system needs to be smoother
C) Character movement needs improvement
D)New maps for the cities and dungeons, most likely bigger and much more lively, and for the dungeons/caves more detailed environments

In general:
Of course, bug fixes are also a "must have".

But still I gave this game a thumbs up. So why?

Simply said, it is still fun to play, but I understand the frustration of the other players as well.

"So why would you invest?" Because I belong to their target group: having an adventurous, free ship RPG game in the 17th century. And I hope and pray that they keep improving it.

We are not talking about a AAA game with millions and millions of dollars that can easily hire a huge team for graphics, gameplay, and coding. But I hope that my money was still worth it to keep them alive and continuing development.

I barely write any comments about games, but seeing this game even after 14 years, from my perspective in this state, I hope that new players, veterans, and even the developers could read it and try to understand my review and comments.

And I hope that I do represent a lot of people opinions as well who simply wish that they keep developing it, but with more effort.

Age of Pirates — Release Date and Price Revealed!

The Caribbean Legend: Age of Pirates playtest is officially over — and it was big.

The game held up remarkably well. For a beta, the bug count was impressively low. Some of you logged dozens of hours, cleared most of the side quests, and hit a serious character level. That means a lot to us. Thank you! ːrespect_soldierː

Reading through the comments, it's clear that some players aren't quite sure what this game actually is — or how it's different from Caribbean Legend. If that's happening, that's on me as a publisher. Let me clear things up. ːrespect_soldierː

Why didn't you just merge AoP content into the base CL?
Age of Pirates is a remaster of City of Abandoned Ships. Caribbean Legend is a remake of a completely different game — each built by a different team, at a different time, with a different design philosophy. Both run on the Storm Engine, which still does certain things better than anything else out there — but it's also notoriously painful when it comes to cross-project development and compatibility. Moving content or mechanics from one game to the other isn't just hard. It's expensive, slow, and often simply not worth it.

CL is a story-driven adventure. AoP is an open-world sandbox. They're not two versions of the same game — they're two very different games that happen to share a universe. Believe me, I'd love to have one definitive pirate RPG that does everything. We're not there yet.

Why does CL have things that AoP doesn't?
Things like the new naval targeting system or autosaves — yes, those would be great in AoP too. If the game does well, ReCon Team will look at adding them post-launch. But some things, like the item and perk system, aren't being ported over by design. The team has their own vision for where this game goes, and I want them to build something new — not a second CL. And again, the technical barrier between these two games is real.

Why are you working on a second game before finishing the first?
We're not. Age of Pirates is developed by an entirely separate team. 90% of BlackMark Studio's resources are going into Patch 2.0 right now — we've been at it for nearly a year. Once AoP launches, there'll be a teaser trailer, and you'll see exactly what I mean.

Why is AoP so hard?
Because City of Abandoned Ships was a hard game. With CL, we pulled the difficulty back significantly — and honestly, a portion of the audience wasn't happy about that. ReCon Team will be addressing some of the rougher edges based on playtest feedback. Beyond that, it's their call — and I think that's the right approach.

Thank you to everyone who participated, played, and helped us catch bugs and rough spots. We've got plenty to work with before launch.

Trapped in Wilderness Zone?

I've had a situation a few times where I'll be in a wilderness area, but suddenly all of the exits say "closed" and the only way to leave is to reload a save game from before it happened. What might be causing this, and is there a way to stop whatever is blocking me from moving? (Also, what is meant to happen in wilderness zones? Aside from getting ambushed once, they've been almost exclusively empty for me so far.)...
