TLDR: This is a fun take on the Tower Defense genre, but it's hamstrung by major performance issues that make the mid-game to late-game literally unplayable. Can't recommend until this is addressed.

The performance issues are the only reason I'm giving this a negative review. Having played enough to unlock some of the better turret/unit options, I got a run to survive past 40 days...and then realized I'd hit a hard wall because the game starts slowing to a crawl at that point. By day 46 I was getting single-digit FPS, and I decided to let myself die there just to end it. It kills any motivation to continue unlocking new powerups and buildings when the game performance itself won't allow me to make proper use of them. I was defeated not by endlessly scaling enemies, but by the game unable to process it all. Optimization should be the dev's primary focus in my opinion. It may also help to implement some graphics options, because right now all we can do is choose resolution and fullscreen/windowed.

The main gimmick of creating your map via adding new hex-tiles is incredibly fun for a tower-defense game. You can completely shut off the spawning of some enemy types by closing off entry portals for them (and even win a game by closing them ALL)...but this can also be punishing at times if you're not careful. The game has a "rage" mechanic that does percentage buffs for enemies based on how many portals they're expecting to come through versus what you'd made available on your map. This can make closing off pathways backfire on you, because the enemies that do come through your chokepoints may now have the sheer health and armor to break through. This creates an interesting dynamic of trying to make longer tracks of land and turrets to whittle down enemies while also closing off spawn portals that are too close, WHILE ALSO avoiding closing too many portals at once.

That said, the tiles you get are completely random, so you can get massively screwed over by RNG...either by not being able to close off unfavorable portals, or by being given strings of "garbage" tiles that may just make your map harder to defend. You currently purchase a random tile via in-game currency gathered from defeated enemies. I would like to see a more expensive option to buy a specific tile type (even if its gated behind progression or something), or maybe even a boss/mini-boss killing reward that grants a single tile of your choice. It's not a game breaking issue, but I think players might appreciate late-game rewards of having more options to mitigate the RNG involved in this.

Progression in the game comes from getting "trophies" from playing runs, with you getting more for surviving longer. With those trophies, you can unlock new turrets/units, new passive buffs, resource generation buildings, etc. It's well implemented and provides a lot of incentive to keep playing.

An excellent roguelike tower defense game with a focus on path-building, like Rogue Tower. Compared to Rogue Tower, there is a lot more QOL and overall polish, and there's some nice depth in the elemental interactions. The tile placement and path-building, and the "wonder" system is really fun, and I really enjoy the different meta in the different biomes (especially the rocky biome! Highlands are really fun). I've gotten quite a lot of fun out of it, but the game does have some definite weak points:

- The progression curve is really steep, which makes the game feel very difficult at times, but as you unlock more talents, the game really opens up. This does provide a good sense of progression, but also means the game is *very* difficult at the start, and can feel a bit grindy at times.

- A lot of the towers really feel the same-- all the elemental towers behave identically, but just apply a different status effect, and all the explosive towers behave almost exactly the same, just with a slightly different damage / range / attack speed tradeoff, and those are the only two types of towers that aren't the basic ballista. The introduction of the "units" helps mix it up, but the elemental units aren't too meaningfully different from the tower version and it's not clear how the melee units are different from one another (and they can't attack boats, which makes them useless against half the enemies!) I would love to see more creative tower designs like you can get in Rogue Tower or Tower Tactics: Liberation, or at the very least give the elemental / explosive tower upgrades & cards some more distinct effects from one another! It makes sense that lightning would jump between enemies, but why does the water tower do that too? And the fire, ice, light, and dark towers too?

- The cost scaling is really hard to understand. Even tower upgrades scale and it's not clear what it scales with-- sometimes a level 2 upgrade will be cheaper than a level 1 upgrade, sometimes the same upgrade will cost different amounts on different towers, and even production buildings cost scales dramatically, so they can be a really poor investment once you've built a few.

And while the game overall feels very slick, there are some QOL elements I'd love to see fixed to make the game feel a bit better to play:
- When the map gets really large, you can't pan up far enough and it can become really hard to see what's happening at the northernmost part of the map because of the tilted view.
- There's no preview for the next tile, so you have to manually check the tile-- something like what Dorfromantik does to preview the tile would go a long way!
- There's no way to view the map when selecting an upgrade or blessing, so it can be hard to know what upgrade will be most valuable if you don't remember how many turrets you have of each type.

All-in-all, it's a really solid roguelike tower defense game which you'll enjoy if you liked Rogue Tower, but still with a few rough spots I'd love to see polished up!

A lot like Rogue Tower, but with enough differences that it is it's own thing. I really love the use of units in this tower defence. I love being able to move the units around, the ability to sell off buildings to re-arrange your setup, which comes especially in handy if you end up closing off routes making them obsolete.
The game also has a really good tutorial, and tutorial popups when you unlock new things. Explaining bosses and new types of units. There is also a weekly mode and Rogue-like mode with leader boards, and stats etc. if you're into that sort of thing.
