Is Modern Naval Warfare for you?

Greetings, Commanders.

Since we began sharing Modern Naval Warfare with the world, the feedback has been illuminating. We have seen veteran submariners and hardcore simulation enthusiasts lose themselves in the depth of our systems. Conversely, we’ve seen players accustomed to more traditional "naval combat games" feel adrift without a compass.

We want to be transparent: Modern Naval Warfare is a high-fidelity professional simulation first, and a commercial game second. Before you hit that "Purchase" button, we want to ensure you know exactly what you are stepping into. To help you decide if you’re ready to take command of a Virginia-class SSN, please read through our "Readiness Checklist" below.

1. The learning curve: a mountain, not a hill

In most games, you learn the controls in ten minutes. In Modern Naval Warfare, you are learning a career.

The Reality: There is no "Press F to Fire" button. You will be managing sonar cascades, analyzing narrowband signatures, and calculating manual fire-control solutions.
The Challenge: If you find the idea of reading a 200-page technical manual exciting, you are in the right place. If you expect an in-game "Hint" system to tell you when to shoot, you will likely find the experience frustrating.

2. The language of the deep

We do not use "Game Speak." We use the language of the United States Navy. The interface is crowded with acronyms that are essential to the operation of a nuclear submarine.

Do you know (or want to learn) the difference between:

BQR vs. BQS? (Sonar systems)
TMA? (Target Motion Analysis)
SSP? (Sound Speed Profile)
LOFAR vs. DEMON? (Frequency analysis)

If these terms sound like gibberish and you have no desire to learn the physics behind them, this simulation may not be for you. We provide the tools, but we expect the Commander to provide the knowledge.

3. The "pace" of modern submarine warfare

Hollywood portrays submarine combat as a series of rapid-fire explosions. The reality is a high-stakes game of hide-and-seek that can last for hours.

Patience is a Weapon: You may spend 45 minutes moving at 3 knots, hugging a thermal layer, just to identify a single contact.
Methodical Execution: Stealth is your only defense. One wrong move—accelerating too quickly or cavitating—will result in a sudden, violent end that you might not even see coming.

4. Systems complexity (no hand-holding)

The "Specialist Press" has praised our attention to detail because we haven't simplified the consoles.

Authenticity: Every dial, waterfall display, and button serves a function found on the real vessel.
User Interface: Our UI is designed for functionality and realism, not necessarily "ease of use." It mimics the density of a real-world station. If you find complex spreadsheets or technical software intimidating, the command center will feel overwhelming.

Our philosophy: why we made this

We didn't set out to make a game for everyone. We set out to make the definitive simulation for someone—the enthusiast who has been waiting decades for a successor to the great sub sims of the 90s.

Modern Naval Warfare is launching in Early Access

After completing our first round of beta testing and receiving a large amount of valuable feedback, we have made an important decision regarding the launch of Modern Naval Warfare:

Modern Naval Warfare will initially release in Early Access.

Modern Naval Warfare is an ambitious simulation project. Our goal is to build the most accurate and realistic modern submarine simulator possible.

Following beta testing, it became clear that achieving the level of realism, depth, and technical detail expected by the naval simulation community requires direct collaboration with players throughout development.

This is not only about refining submarine systems and gameplay balance, but also about improving the broader experience around them: tutorials, onboarding, documentation, user interface, and overall accessibility without sacrificing complexity.

Why Early Access?

We believe Early Access is the best way to continue developing Modern Naval Warfare with direct community involvement while making the game available in a fully playable state.

Unlike many Early Access titles, Modern Naval Warfare launches with the core experience already implemented, including:

Full Virginia-class submarine simulation with all major stations functional
Complete playable campaign available from day one
Fully implemented world systems, ocean simulation, and AI maritime traffic
Extensive documentation and onboarding materials already included

The game is already playable from start to finish in its intended form.

During Early Access, our focus will be on refining and polishing the experience through community feedback, with particular attention to:

systems balancing and campaign tuning
performance optimization across a wider range of hardware
UI and UX improvements
onboarding and tutorial refinement
expanded documentation
localization support for major regions
technical groundwork for future multiplayer functionality

Community involvement

Modern Naval Warfare is designed first and foremost as a deep technical simulation.

We are specifically looking for feedback from players passionate about realistic naval operations, tactical procedures, sonar systems, fire control systems, weapon envelopes and modern submarine warfare.

At the same time, we want to improve onboarding and learning materials for dedicated new players willing to invest time into mastering these systems.

We intend to actively involve the community throughout Early Access and remain open to all forms of constructive feedback.

Early Access plans

We are currently targeting an Early Access period of approximately 12 months.

This timeframe gives us room to process community feedback, refine complex systems, improve stability and performance, and continue polishing the overall experience until it meets our internal quality standards.

We currently have no plans to change the price between Early Access and full release.

To me this game is a Fast Attack successor

I know everybody is talking about that this game is being the spiritual successor to DW, Sub Command, but to me, this game shares the same DNA with (probably my all time favorite sub game) Fast Attack from 1996. Just watching the gameplay videos, is just screams Fast Attack in modern version to me. I am looking forward so much to this sim....

Worried about performance, lots of streamers seem to have issues

I think im hitting recommended requirements but watching steam a lot of them are having issues. I assume most streamers have decent rigs but ill guess we'll have to see. Performance is such a big factor in enjoyment, just hope the devs are really working on that side of it. AMD 5600X 32GM RAM 3060Ti SSD Ill run it at 2k. Fingers crossed....
