OddFauna x Steam Deck Support

With the Early Access launch of OddFauna: Secret of the TerraBeast approaching on June 2nd, we want to share some exciting news for those who prefer to take their adventures on the go.

We are happy to confirm that OddFauna is fully supported on the Steam Deck. The game runs smoothly out of the box, offering a great experience. We play the game a lot on the Steam Deck in our household. I love the Steam Deck and it is VERY cool to have our own game on it.

While the game is currently in the "Unknown" category, which is standard for titles that haven't hit the public storefront yet, we are committed to maintaining a high standard of performance and will be seeking official Steam Deck Verified status as soon as the review process opens.

How Steam Deck Verification Works

For those curious about that little green checkmark, Valve has a rigorous review process to ensure a game feels "at home" on the Deck. To become Verified, a game must pass four main pillars of compatibility:

Input: The game must have full controller support, use the appropriate on-screen controller icons, and automatically bring up the virtual keyboard when you need to enter text.
Seamlessness: Players shouldn't see any compatibility warnings. If there’s a launcher, it must be fully navigable with a controller, so you aren’t reaching for the touchscreen.
Display: The game must support the Deck’s native resolution (1280x800 or 1280x720) and ensure that all UI and text are easily legible at a handheld distance.
System Support: Whether running natively or through Proton, the game and all its middleware (like anti-cheat or video codecs) must be fully compatible with SteamOS.

The Road to the Green Checkmark

Once the game is live, Valve’s testing team will put the world of OddFauna through its paces. Until that review is complete, the game may display a "Playable" or "Unknown" badge, but rest assured: the experience is already solid, and we will continue to refine it throughout Early Access.

May 13 launch?!

I cannot in good conscience recommend this game based on the current state. The UI is an absolute mess visually, and has numerous bugs and accessibility issues. The gameplay is still essentially non-existent. To imagine that it will be ready for full release in just over a month when there was virtually no progress made between the last two updates? I would be very surprised. I'll happily eat my words if I turn out to be wrong, but at the moment, what us testers have in our hands is garbage with potential....

We have an important update to share regarding the Early Access release of OddFauna: Secret of the TerraBeast. To ensure the best possible experience for everyone on day one, we are shifting our launch date to June 2nd.

Why the change?

As a small team, we want to make sure every part of this whimsical world feels polished and ready for exploration. This extra time allows us to:

A Better Window: This new date gives us a much better launch window.
Bug Squashing: Hunt down those final few pesky bugs.
Polish & Shine: Fine-tune the game to ensure it's as intuitive and rewarding as possible.

OddFauna is Launching May 13, 2026! + Huge Demo Update Out Now

The wait is almost over. We are incredibly excited to announce that OddFauna: Secret of the TerraBeast will be stomping onto Steam in Early Access this May 13th!

It has been a long journey of hand-sculpting clay, refining systems and nurturing our TerraBeast. We can’t wait for you to finally start your own ecosystem. To Celebrate, we’ve pushed a massive update to the Steam Demo that reflects all the work we’ve done since Next Fest!

What’s New

OddFauna behaviors and ability. Every OddFauna will now help out in their own special way, on the back of the TerraBeast and when they are in your party
Nests! Build your friends a place to sleep and call home.
Refined what OddFauna love to eat and improved how the player can learn this
Lots more helpful hints and tutorials
Fixed nighttime lighting
Tons of bug smashes!

OddFauna is now 100% Steam Deck ready. I’ve done a pass on playability and performance, and it now plays great on the Steam Deck. (This is my preferred way to play personally)

The controls/camera need a lot of work

I love this game in concept but my entire playthrough was fighting with the camera and struggling with the controls which feel less than intuitive. The menus are clunky to navigate on a gamepad, and it isn't always obvious what I am selecting. Building a house was an exercise in patience, I couldn't even see what roof piece I was placing. I love the concept, I thought the little guys were cute, the art is fantastic, and the idea of growing this huge monster is really neat. I hope the controls improve befo...

Had to CTRL-ALT-DELETE to exit.

Escape doesn't work to bring up a menu, neither does tab. Couldn't figure out how to exit the game. What are the controls for opening your inventory or EXITING THE GAME?
