Frames keep dropping between games and never going back up

Check how much VRAM the game is using - been quite a few cases of people with similar issues recently and quite a few people seeing high (and sometimes rising) VRAM usage. I've had it myself (all AMD rig).
The only solution is to disconnect and get back in the queue..

I typed 'memory leak squad' into brave and the AI came up with this -

Memory Leak Squad
Squad has been reported to suffer from a persistent memory leak issue, affecting both system RAM and GPU memory. Players have observed a steady increase in memory usage over time, with some reporting system RAM usage reaching 93% after just a few hours of gameplay, even with 16GB of RAM.
This issue manifests as severe performance degradation, including lag spikes, frame pacing problems, and sudden drops in FPS, often forcing players to disconnect from servers.
The problem appears to be linked to the game's use of Unreal Engine 4, with speculation that it could stem from a real memory leak or inefficient memory caching.
Some users have noted that the issue became more pronounced after a recent update, suggesting a regression.

The problem is not limited to system RAM; GPU memory leaks have also been reported, with one player experiencing GPU memory usage spike to 8GB when viewing specific in-game assets like the new FOB netting, which did not return to expected levels after moving away.
This suggests the issue may involve how certain graphical assets are managed and released by the game engine.

The development team, Offworld Industries, has acknowledged the existence of memory-related problems, with a developer noting that the game's maps deconstruct and should not persist in the background, implying the issue lies in how assets are disposed of.
However, no official fix has been confirmed. Community workarounds include restarting the game after each map to prevent memory accumulation
, adjusting virtual memory settings on Windows
, and clearing cache or disabling the "load all textures" option in video settings.
Despite these measures, the issue remains a significant concern for players, with some expressing frustration over the lack of progress in resolving it, especially following the game's acquisition by Tencent.

This makes it sound like an issue with how OWI implemented UE4 but in their defence when I looked into it for a resolution to my own issues, it looks like UE4 has problems with random memory leaks for random players in a lot of games and it likes to use VRAM for a lot more than textures.

Only partially true. The Hive Tyrant was the synaptic link from the Hive Mind to theTyranid forces, sure... in that area. As powerful as they are, Hive Tyrants still have a limit to their influence and there would be dozens across the invasion area. Outside of that particular Tyrant's sphere of influence I can assure you, the Tyranids will be functioning just fine.
But this isn't one of the main hive fleets, one of the opening cutscenes specifies this. Its a smaller splinter fleet. Its possible this splinter fleet only has one tyrant.
Tyrants are part of the synaptic web, think of it like expansion bases in a strategy game, those bases, even large ones all serve as vital command points from which to orchestrate your forces in the conflict and losing those bases will be a heavy blow to operations in that area and in the case of a tyrant or really large base, that lose can be a turning point in the conflict but it will never in and of itself win you the battle unless the other player or the hive fleet decides to up and leave, quiting because they see the writing on the wall which the hive fleet is smart enough to do but rarely does even when subjected to catastrophic loses of synaps creatures like tyants and titanic bio-forms getting wiped out via orbital bombardment.

Killing a tyrant in and of it self only means a temporary victory in the area and a great foothold from which to push forward against the hive fleet, thus killing them is important but not an instant win button.
