Star Citizen is hardly the average game to use as an example.
It's the most blatant con in gaming history, and that's saying something!

But there are always those who will pay over the odds for things that are not worth it.
That's on you if you are willing to spend the price of 2 full price AAA games, or dozens of indie games, just for a skin. :conwayshrug:

I wouldn't mind kicking a couple of bucks now and then to the devs for all their work, but that is clearly not good enough for them.
It's either cough up $30-40, or even more, or it's apparently not worth their time.
They can't be bothered with small amounts of cash, when they could be raking in hundreds per player for each skin.
But sure, they remember to milk even the minnows, making sure that the Stash Tabs are too small for playing very long, and generally making the game much worse for anyone who isn't coughing up enough cash.

And no, I don't think that they have done the maths, I think that they are just doing the same thing that so many other "Free to Play" games have done, but even more so.
There are MANY videos out there that explain the whole whaling thing, how devs are literally preying on their customers and always push the prices sky high.

As for saying it's FOMO, yeah, that's the point behind a LOT of their actions, and why so many things in the store are always on limited time "offers".
The whole idea is to con you and trick you into telling yourself it's worth it because it's limited edition, or it'll be gone soon, or you have to make a choice NOW.
It's a long and well worn path to these traps, and these devs are just another group following the same instructions to prey on the vulnerabilities of their customers.

And most players don't care about playing dress up, and cosmetics don't matter?

There are entire games dedicated to nothing else!
Dark Souls games have a big community that are dedicated to "playing dress up".
In ANY online game, almost everyone wants to look good, stand out, or just make their character look the best in their own eyes, and most want to look better than others around them, especially if they have been playing a while and are a high level.

Again, there is a LOT of information about how companies are preying on gamers like this.
That's why so many companies employ psychologists now, it's not for the mental health of the staff, they don't care about that, they employ psychologists so that they can find more and new ways to force their players to part with their cash.

Most gamers with an interest outside of their own heads will have heard of the people in various other games who dare to turn up with "basic" skins, default armor and weapons and so on.
There have been many stories in the media of people playing fortnight who get abuse for not having the latest skins, kids going to school and getting violently assaulted, merely for not spending enough money in these games.

No one who actually watches what is going on in the gaming space can seriously state that cosmetics are irrelevant.
If they WERE so pointless and irrelevant, why are GGG and so many other companies that play these same cons all pricing skins so highly?
If no one cares about their character looking good, why would it be compulsory in games for players to be able to see the equipment that they have on their character at all?
Why would anyone spend $30 on a skin to make their sword show flames, or to change the color of the gate that they use to go back to town?
Why would people pay ANYTHING for footsteps that glow, flame or any one of a hundred effects in dozens of games?

ANY ARPG that trys to break into the market without having good cosmetics in their game gets laughed off the charts, so tell me again, how are cosmetics pointless and irrelevant?

Anyone remember when Wolcen came out?
Do you remember how the game got mocked for the laughable design of the character armor?
Shoulder pads on armor that towered over the heads of the character that was wearing them?
A LOT of people thought that the way that characters looked in that game made a BIG difference to the way it played.
How can you take someone seriously when they are wearing Castle Greyskull playsets on each shoulder, as one reviewer asked.

And if how your character looks is so unimportant, why is it that all characters look dull and drab in POE1, UNLESS actual money is spent on them to buy skins?
Funny that, eh?

If you want to spend your inheritance on skins, sure, that's your call and up to you, just as if you want to spend your wages on skins.
But not only are the devs alienating players with their contempt and obscene pricing, which is damaging their player numbers, but they are also so obsessed with chasing those with more money than sense, that they are ignoring the thousands more players who would be happy to spend their money on the game, if the prices were reasonable.

There will NEVER be that many whales spending money, but there are many, MANY more people who will play who will never spend more than it takes to open up a reasonable amount of stash tabs, purely because of the greed of the devs.

And the contempt that these companies show by considering us all in terms of whales, minnows etc should be obvious, and show that they see us as obsticles between them and our wallets.
(To be clear, I have never heard or read of GGG calling their players minnow or whales, I've just seen how they treat us all, and it is the same way that all companies who see us that way treat us)

Rule# 15. There are tier lists out their for gold stakes. They don't really move around a whole lot between players.

Thanks. I'm going to go back to my random deck play and see what happens. But I just knew Plasma would be my first Gold Stake win.

Doesn't seem to be. I recently bought it and my mouse and keyboard are useless.
I got a refund.

This developer is close to making it to my "Dont Buy" list, so i know that i will never have to buy from this developer anymore unfortunately.
Not ok that they dont say or do anything, but silence all this time. :-(
