I think we doing it all the time. What we call "science" is in fact just bug abuse, with quantum mechanics we might have reached a point were we influence indiviual bits and bytes.

Every leader in this game is an idealist. Each with their own version of what 'ideal' is.
All the 'idealist leaders' are flawed in their own way.

Iron Mike believes, correctly, that all the remaining humans need to band together. He therefore believes that a level of 'forgiveness' is necessary for past 'sins'. Because not to forgive simply carries on the self destructive cycle of the various groups killing each other off. He isn't totally against killing other humans, but he does believe that a 'sinner' should be tried by a jury of their peers, not simply killed out of hand. A trial has a couple of reasons for happening. 1) the sinner gets to say their reasons for doing what they did. They will probably still be killed. 2) It announces to the 'World' that this camp will not simply kill you out of hand. But if you come in, you must stay within their rules.

Why is Iron Mike correct, that all the remaining humans need to band together?
Because they need to farm crops. That takes a lot of land and people to do effectively. If people are actively killing those farming, then there won't be enough food to go around. Guarding against freakers is fairly straightforward, it only takes a few guards. Guarding against marauders takes a lot more, because they'll be much more sneaky. More guards means fewer people doing the actual productive work.

i also cant activate it. not going to brick my pc trying either. its cool if they want to intentionally sell less copies though. not my problem. you shouldnt need to be a computer technician in order to play a game. if you have a newer system with it already enabled then good for you, consider yourself lucky.
