I guess the reason why the don't give XP is because nightmare maps are literally nightmares - you wake up in your bed and not drive the car.

so i will like tool crafting other than the unlocks to make it feel more hands on the survival aspect

*long stick + knife + rope = improvised spear
*diferent lenght sticks + stone + 1 to 2 rope = Axe (i want to break barrels and stools)
*3 rope + 3 stones = Boleadoras (to immovilise animals)
*3 animal remains + rope = Bait (trown in water to atract fishes)
*some new flexible stick + rope = Bow
*small stick or long + using knife = sharp stick (small stick can be arrow and long spear or both + hotting with stone and be placed like fence on ground)
*4 rope = x length of climable rope (if anker point its added to the book then rope can be made to make our own short cuts)

Amazing Follower Tweaks SE may be what you are thinkg of. It has no requirements and I have used it without problems in the past.
