I think folks are being entirely too dogmatic. Alignment is a guideline, not a set of criteria.
Hell, the same action could be motivated by all corners of the alignment axis and so could the opposite:
Kill the goblins to save others despite how distasteful it is, Good. Don't kill the goblins because all life is sacred, Good.
Kill the goblins because the bloodshed is fun, Evil. Don't kill them because you like their style of marauding, Evil.
Kill them because they're disrupting the natural order, Lawful. Don't kill them because you don't feel you have the authority for unilateral action, Lawful.
Kill them or don't because it seemed like the thing to do at the time, Chaotic.
Stop trying to decide what a character would or wouldn't do based on their alignment and instead decide what the character would or wouldn't do and why based on who they are THEN determine from their actions and motives what alignment they are.

I think you're trying too hard to twist morality into a game of perspective. There's nonlethal mechanics for that very reason, but to say that inaction against goblins who are boasting about how they eat roast-dwarf could in any way be seen as 'good' is just detached

Because the guy has only gotten to the Gith Creche, everything below here is a spoiler

There isn't a single argument to be made about a 'good' guy snuffing out Last Light Inn's protection, or getting the Sins of the Father achievement

You can try to twist the first-person perception of their morality, but it does next to nothing for the perceived outside perspective of it
Nobody is suggesting inaction. The question is between wholesale slaughter with no thought (which OP suggested was the only thing a Lawful Good character would ever do) vs investigation followed by more considered action.
Besides which what I was criticising was people saying "X alignment would always do this specific thing and nothing else." Which, in my opinion, is just bad role-playing. You create a character, you don't just pick an off-the-rack archetype.
Now, of course there are limits and yes, killing a whole bunch of innocents for no reason is obviously evil. But extremes do not counteract the basic concept.
