New player balance feelings after completing sector 1

The recent change where you don't lose the boss fight when your "backup" bites the dust enabled me to actually complete sector 1, so here's my unrequested random feedback

1) Showing the player how to extract traits from gear and craft them into better gear should be a much bigger part of the tutorial. This makes your life SO MUCH EASIER, and it's not intuitively obvious how much it matters.

2) Enemy point defenses seem kind of crazy OP. I tried running a missile boat build, and even with 3 launchers, as soon as a few enemies with point defense lasers got overlapping coverage then they just COMPLETELY negate my build. Trying to defeat even basic enemies involves long drawn out fights of trying to draw a single guy out of the flock, zip into point blank range and over-saturating their point defense one at a time. This doesn't really seem fair.

3) Asteroids are not fun. They're too numerous to steer through at high speed and too small to reliably use them as "terrain". I would encourage much bigger, much fewer, moving asteroids that drift through the map as mobile cover instead of functioning like a gravel storm that you have to plow through.

4) The Support Beacon is really wierd. Ships were not disappearing after the end of the "Duration", which is what I expected to happen, and re-using the device if there are ANY ships left alive will not replace them with new ships for your fleet which makes it basically function at 1/3 strength for most of the mission. This needs some love.

5) The balance between beams and machine gun type weapons seems suspect. The beams are SO much easier to use since they are unaffected by flight time or physics. I feel like unguided projectile guns do not get enough of a damage bonus compared to how much harder they are to actually use.

6) Zones feel very small and same-y. Go to a new zone, fight for 30 seconds, go to a new zone, fight for 30 seconds... I think you would get better mileage out of significantly bigger and fewer zones, with more going on in them. Things like stations, huge freighters, asteroid mining bases, that serve as anchor points for the "terrain". Enemies guarding specific loot-bearing installations and cargo depots like they have some reason to exist, instead of just floating around in empty space waiting for you.
