Secureboot isn't about cheating its about normalizing invasive spying

The Trusted Platform Module (TPM) is a security chip designed to enhance computer security, while the National Security Agency (NSA) is a US intelligence agency focused on cybersecurity and signals intelligence. The NSA has actively promoted the use of TPMs, particularly TPM 2.0

At the Black Hat conference in August 2013, a group of security researchers presented a series of exploits in specific vendor implementations of UEFI that could be used to exploit Secure Boot.

In August 2024, the Windows 11 and Windows 10 security updates applied the Secure Boot Advanced Targeting (SBAT) settings to device's UEFI NVRAM, which caused some Linux distributions to fail to load.

If you think TPM / Secure boot / UEFI don't have hardware built backdoors you have no idea what you are talking about these kinda of restrictions on a video game have no place in the gaming industry.
So let me get this straight—you’re convinced that Secure Boot in a video game anti-cheat is some kind of shadowy plot to personally spy on you, but you’re fine running Windows, Discord, Chrome, and a GPU driver that literally phones home every time you blink?

Secure Boot isn’t a magical spy chip; it’s a firmware-level verification to stop unauthorized code from loading before your OS boots—exactly the sort of thing that prevents malware and rootkits from running in the background. The game’s anti-cheat is using it to make sure it starts in a clean environment so the “330,000 cheaters” you mentioned can’t just inject themselves before the OS. That’s not a conspiracy—that’s just good security hygiene.

And the “death of the industry” thing? Please. People said the exact same thing about Steam DRM, Battle.net accounts, and online activation. Guess what? Gaming didn’t die—it grew. Secure Boot isn’t “forcing” you to do anything. You still have the choice: turn it off and don’t play the game. That’s it. Freedom of choice intact.

Also, the fact that cheaters still exist doesn’t mean Secure Boot is useless—it’s about making cheating harder and more expensive, so you don’t get clapped by aimbots every other match. You don’t stop installing locks on your door just because burglaries still exist.

But hey—if you think disabling every modern security feature is the hill to die on, I guess next you’ll be demanding games run on a floppy disk without any internet connection. That’ll show ‘em.
