the worst controls and interface of all space games

And yes, the interface is awful. Many players have gotten used to it, but it is simply bad from a player experience perspective.

For example, there is no in-game way to tell if a station has the appropriate sized landing dock for you. Not from the system map. You have to assume that only large stations have them.

If you are flying through unknown space, low on fuel, how do you know if the next system contains a large station to buy gas? You don't. You can only guess.

Another example - No in-game module shopping search, like you cannot see where to buy the A-version of Class X size for a module. Why would an interconnected galactic empire not have Amazon, but Earth does?

Another example. The navigation panel sucks. A million signal sources and we have to scroll through them like a jukebox? Can't filter by danger level or type.

Another example. NPC babbling being in the same window as player comms. Can't even have a discussion on a station because 3 million Orca Cruiseliners have to talk about how it's cruising.

Frontier doesn't care. They just want to go on vacations. And the players have paid them enough to do so.
The whole interface isn't awful but some parts of it are awful. I deserves an award for most unintuitive and horrid UX ever seen.

Landing pad size is listed in the nav panel. Open up the port from the list. This is badly documented but it is there.

Unknown gas station thing is a good example of a STUPID complaint. You're complaining just to complain and vent.
Of course you can refuel genius. You can always tell if the next system is populated or not. If it has a population, it will have a port.
May not have a large pad but if you made it to a large ship without learning the most basic basics of basics such as fuel, then you should run dry and suffer the preventable consequences.

No in-game store search and i don't get it either. At least show a tech level or something. OG Elite had that 40 ice ages ago... but no.
Unbelievable miss.
Pathetic that adult human beings employed in the gaming industry cannot figure this out fo their flagship game.
what the mohawk...

I don't know if they don't care. They are definetly THAT incompetent and disorganized.

I really don't get why people are defending Elite so blindly here... I really don't.
Yeah some newbies come out swinging and complain too much, but have you played this game? You can't pitch up without eating a ♥♥♥♥ sandwich. How many bugs FESTER in the game for years and years? And how many are so basic and simple?
Indie devs can keep their game lean and polished but a fairly large company that has enough pockets can't manage this clowncar sim?

At this point it's not even certain they'll adress carrier lights being bugged let alone fix it. They never gave a ♥♥♥♥ they broke the zoom in the on-foot carema suite (without breaking it in the SRV and ship suites)

I love Elite but how many times am i, as a fan and someone who has fun playing the game going to say eff this game?

I don't get it.
