The solution isn't to get rid of the downsides, it is to lean into them and reward the player with extra damage to offset it.

tiers in WOTH are indicators, not separators. All that matters as far as a clean kill, is the impact energy. There is some math or at least estimating needed for your correct shot solution, but the basic idea is every gun is rated in joules out of the barrel, and that quantity can be mathematically calculated for speed, joules, and drop for any distance.
Every gun shoots in an arc, the farther out the target, the higher the aim correction. Accompanying that drop over distance, the round loses energy. If you know the starting value of "J" (joules) you can calculate when your round will be traveling at the correct rate to strike within the suggested energy range upon contact.
To put it simply, a low tiered weapon used very close to a higher tiered animal may generate enough hitting power.
A higher tiered weapon, aimed from far away will strike with lowered energy.

You are not penalized for using any weapon on any target.
The hunt rating goes down if you do too much damage, take too many shots, or ruin the trophy. Totally different from COTW, if you've played that. They are suggestions. As long as you strike within or even just above the recommended values, no penalties.
Even if you do mess up, the only down side is a little less profit from meat loss, or no trophy. You're not punished in this game, only rewarded - heck, you can't even die. Good Hunting.

For 3.99, I personally find it hard to be disappointed by this DLC, even with it's flaws. I've just been focused on the intrigue of what people have been able to make, and it's been a lot of fun.

Go play on the RU server. It is nothing but easy wins all day.

I don't know everything but to get this to run decently I limited framerate to 72, shut off vsync in the game since somehow it doesn't work right and turned on in my driver settings. The game still ran bad but then after restarting the whole pc it suddenly ran good. Game's picky on settings for sure. There is a mouse fix mod you can get if you're using M&K to play. I used a XB1 elite controller and adjusted everything with Steam's controller configurator to fix dead zones and sensitivity and remapping buttons. If you spend some time on it you can definitely get it to run and it's worth it imo. I didn't have crashing issues but it's probably something you can fix just by trying different setting combinations to find out what it needs. Or maybe someone else can help with that.
