Let’s Break the Language Barrier on Steam Forums

Unless a business can make money back to pay for a service, they are not going to use it.

Steam would make no money back from users for purchasing access to a translator system.

What does Steam get back?
Absolutely nothing.

If you want to know what someone is saying, then go use the FREE translators that exist.

And most users are going to interact with other users who speak the same language.

Translation programs for business purposes are expensive.

Thanks for sharing your perspective — I get where you're coming from. But I think it's worth looking at the bigger picture.

💡 Not all value is monetary: Steam might not earn direct revenue from a translation feature, but it could gain in user retention, community engagement, and global reach. These are long-term assets that matter just as much as short-term profit.

🌐 Free translators exist, yes — but they’re not integrated: Copy-pasting into external tools breaks the flow of discussion. A built-in solution, even basic, would make the forums more seamless and inclusive.

👥 “Most users interact with those who speak the same language”: True in part, but Steam is a global platform. Many users browse forums for help or mod support, and language barriers can block access to valuable info.

💬 Inclusivity is a strength: Making users feel welcome regardless of language isn’t just a nice gesture — it builds loyalty. And loyal users spend more, stay longer, and contribute more.

🚀 Other platforms do it: Reddit, YouTube, even Discord have integrated translation features. Steam could follow suit without reinventing the wheel.

No character creation ?

This statement is also false.

To clarify... Character creation and Character customisation aren't the same thing.

The character is called Phyre, so we can't create our own vampire as the protag is fixed. So that's the first correction. Bloodlines 1 we played an unnamed character which we could choose the name at the start.

Each clan plays the same once all clan abilities are unlocked in a single play through. So aside from a few clan specific dialogues, there is no character sheet to be able to create how our vampire plays out in the game which is the main aspect of the TTRPG and Bloodlines 1.

The gender, hair style, hair colour and outfit...all of which are accessible regardless of the clan of choice, so again nothing distinctive between the clans that would mean creating the vampire. Everything is how to customise Phyres appearance. And what we can customise is very basic. No body sliders, no facial changes such as beard, facial expressions, no skin colour...go and look at what we can change in Bloodhunt, that is more than we are getting here.

I *mostly* agree with you, but I thought Cyberpunk did a great job with the RP aspect of the game, even though there was a fixed story and your character was always V. There are things to be concerned about (and you correctly list them), but the point of the fixed name isn't a concern for me (and allows for more immersive voice acting).
To counter that point, V isn't being played by both male and female along with 4 clans.

No game in history has ever done this because it makes zero sense.

Mass effect and Witcher...same thing. It's 1 protag and even then where it's played by 2 genders, the name is at least different (V is short for two different names for the male and female).

The issue with a lack of character creation becomes 2 fold...

1) It's fundamental to the IP and the name it claims to be a sequel to.

2) Even in games such as VTM: Redemption where we play a single protag, it's not Kristof played through all clans.

They advertised the game to be a sequel to the original which means keeping and expanding on the original, not turning it in to a generic vampire game so the lack of character creation is a valid point. Especially when, having spent money on a voice actor to voice both Phyre and Fabien, money that could have been spent making a true sequel. But then, to have a voiced protag that plays out virtually the same regardless of the clan we choose is immersion breaking.

The name it's self isn't the issue, it's what it represents.

Essentially the Devs wanted to tell the story of Phyre and shoehorned it into 4 clans and 2 genders. That's not the case with V or any other fixed protag and for good reason.

But if it doesn't impact your ability to enjoy the game then each to their own.
