It sounds like you're just experiencing the "push the front line" missions, which kind of suck. I haven't encountered the bizarre ai behavior like you're describing, however.

not to mention defense seems impossible on some missions. theres no balance in this game. its always fully on one sides favor.

How long have you played the game? Did you just pick it up?

I'm not sure I understand what you mean. There was also a melee attack on LMB in the prequel and no hip shooting, so isn't it good that we're sticking to our roots? Chernobylite isn't a shooter, it's a survival horror.
I have only 4 hours in the first game, so I might have missed it, but I remember it as a game that was about using guns to shoot things until they die. Melee feels certainly new to me, but maybe later on it was a thing.

Regardless of what this first game had, if you let people customize their game in more ways than they can right now, then you can please both sides - those who like having firearms that are purposfully made to suck, so that melee doesn't look too dumb, and those who just want to use guns in this game. If you let players disable reload interruptions and this forced melee attack, then those who for some reason like those, can keep enjoying those features, while the rest can just get rid of it. I assure you, that those who choose to disable them, will like your game better that way, even if your visions are telling you that it is impossible.

I honestly don't know how much work it would involve, but feels to me like not much.

I remember being too nervous to waste ammo early game.
