im trying to understand the games rules when it comes to .. when does it remain real time and when does it switch into turn based?

i had successful melee kills where the game remained real time, unassumingly because the kill was silent (knife) and no witnesses.
on other occasions with the same scenario, it switches in to turn based even tho my squad was Hidden at all times, it never broke once.

as a test i dragged my entire squad to the corner of the map behind a rock, and still, turn based.
meanwhile,on the other side of the map a guard or two run around frantically for no apparent reason.

doing a melee build-run this is extremely frustrating because it drags the encounters out big times and with some guards a silent melee kill becomes impossible because they behave erratically.

Go to the data bank in the options and find "Star Tears" images. There should be pictures of locations where to look for them. If the images are not displayed, then there is a problem. Reinstall the DLC (turn it off and on). If everything is OK with the pictures, then the DLC is installed correctly. Teleport to the Junkyard Camp, run forward a little and it will appear.
