Here’s some videos of me trying to demonstrate the problem I’m having. This is on a nearly year old, freshly re-imaged LCD steam deck (formerly windows dual boot, i used the baldsealion guide for it). Sorry if this is not the right place to post this, will move if needed. Any advice is wholeheartedly appreciated.. here’s the details:

I had the steam deck docked and connected to a monitor +mouse and keyboard for long periods of time and rarely used it as a controller (for around 5 months at a time.. I was kinda just using it as a pc tower). Admittedly.. I kinda forgot about it in the background and when I remembered it, it was pretty dusty and covered in cat hair (There’s five of them..). I wiped off the dust and cat hair and continued to game pc mode.

Played a bit more pc style.. and figured out i really didn’t like it much. Wanted to reset it all eventually so i re-imaged the thing.. And then I realized that the left thumb stick was drifting (?) and acting weird.. So yeah here’s what I’ve tried so far:

1. I’ve updated it and tried the beta updates mode and it persists.
2. Tried the thumbstick cal command in konsole, it helps but doesn’t fix it.
3. I’ve made the joystick deadzones larger in calibration but it didn’t solve it.
4. Shut down completely multiple times, battery mode and all that.. persists.
5. Cleaned under the left thumb stick with alcohol pads (70% alcohol or so)
6. Sprayed around/under the thumb stick with a compressed air can. Nope.
7. Connected a ps4 controller to it, and it functioned without the odd drifting.

At this point.. all I can think of is opening the thing up.. which kinda freaks me out! I've got hand tremors and the only technology I’ve ever opened and messed with was this very steam deck to upgrade it’s storage, and I had a pretty detailed guide for that.. and it became a family project to get it back together..lol.

There’s also the possibility of the steam deck needing a completely new thumb stick.. which is rather scary! So.. I’m trying to get a second opinion here first before I do anything too drastic.. Thank you for listening to my ramblings, any advice and help is greatly appreciated!

Which VR Should I Purchase
Well, I'm definitely not as happy as I was a few hours ago :(.

The Quest 3 Looks Great ... Works Great. If asked... I would recommend it; however, I haven't actually played a Good Game with it yet :(. I played one game, which came with it. These little Tribbles tore up my house... it was soooo Awesome. I'm confident When and IF I'm actually able to play a game (like No Man's Sky or SkyrimVR) I'm going to love it. But while I would recommend it... it comes with a couple of Warnings.

1) The HeadSet battery only last for a couple of hours (2-1/2 Unofficially). I tend to game 6 to 12 hours a day. 2 hours is a bad joke. I did, however, order a HeadBand Battery Pack with one Battery and Hot Swapping. A Dual Batter Charger with one Battery. And then a Single Battery. I figured I've got the HeadSet for 2 hours, then one battery for (they claim 135% of HandBand Power), and while I'm using one battery, I've got 2 charging. Hopefully this will allow Non-Stop Game Play. But the cost of the extra accessory was a bit depressing ;(.

2) And this is actually a Bigger issue than the Battery. I can't seem to access my Steam Games. Based on what the Sales Guy told me, I was under the impression I'd be able to load the Steam App into the Quest HeadSet, then (with my Account) just run my games per normal, but inside of Quest. But apparently I misunderstood. I'm now looking at instructions about PC Apps, Meta Quest Apps, Steam Links, Air Links, and a bunch of other stuff I barely understand. :`(.

Regarding one above, I'm mostly just Whining. However... Regarding two above: if anyone can guide me to some 'Very Simple' "For Dummies" instructions on how to do whatever they are suggesting... I'd truly appreciate it. If it helps: Steam resides on a PC connected wirelessly to a WiFi Router; (which, based on one error message I got, may be an issue.) My Quest is connected to... ???I"m not sure what??? via the same router. I noted one instruction that stated my Steam PC and Quest had to be on the Same WiFi.

In truth, I'd be fine with just Re-Buying my games via Quest, but they don't have any games I'm familiar with; No Man's Sky, SkyrimVR, X-ReBirthVR, Tales of Glory, etc. etc..

In any case... any help would be Greatly Appreciated!!

On days like this, it’s honestly sad to see how the FFXIV community ends up being just as toxic—if not worse—than any other big gaming community. Instead of respecting each other as players, whether someone uses mods or not, it turns into a pointless war: modders defending a tool, while “non-modders” laugh at them and throw around insults (and yes, I’m putting that in quotes because I know a lot of you are hypocrites about modding anyway).

Sure, it’s obvious that using that tool breaks the EULA and ToS. But the real issue isn’t that—it’s seeing how this community, which always brags about being the best online community, shows its true face: a bunch of kids mocking and ridiculing how others choose to enjoy the game.

Does it really bother you that much if someone who pays their sub wants to socialize or roleplay using a mod? (Not everyone was using for nsfw content against all odds)

After reading Steam, the official forums, and social media, all I see is a rotten, fake, and disgustingly toxic community. And honestly, I feel disappointed—because the same people who love to claim FFXIV has the “best community” are proving it’s nothing like that at all.

I've actually never thought the ff14 community was great. I definitely did not think highly of the ff14 RP community. I'm curious what made you think this was the best online community? Because every one of my friends in ff14 think the community is not great.

The first time I bid on a house a group of players from an fc were trash talking me the entire time. I wasn't even decided on which house to bid at that time but decided to just to compete against these people. I won the house and left it empty ever since for 3 years. This community is not great by any means. Most players who have played the game for a while can tell you that.
