That was called the arcade, dude, and it was booming lol. You played at the difficulty the machine was set to and you had no control over it, nor could you really appeal to the arcade owner, he'd just laugh at you lol.
But you're now seeing it from my pov though, your original statement said devs put these settings in because angry complainers would riot otherwise when history does not show that at all, I know it was hyperbole but in essence you're saying they come from complaints but like I said, history doesn't agree. It's a conscious choice to appeal to all kinds of gamers at home, sometimes region based (North American versions of games back then were actually harder than the Japanese versions for example by default like Hard mode in Japanese Bare Knuckle 3 was our Normal in Streets of Rage 3. This still exists to a degree with Dynasty Warriors, the Japanese version is considerably easier than other regions because DW has a large female fanbase).

Well it's not that hard to get.

What type of battery do you have?
Assuming it is the correct type, then what you do is open your items (I), select your GPS (or whatever device) and pick 'remove battery' to get rid of the dead one. Then you simply click on 'Install battery', your inventory will open and you should be able to select a battery. If you are unsure of where to look, make sure that no icons are lit and type 'battery' in the search box & they will appear. Please make sure you are adding one with 100% charge and not simply reinstalling the old, dead one
