Relic also abandoned all commitments and support to DOW 3 after it was flamed. Regardless of how you may feel about that product that is not a good look. Relic is not much better.
Iron harvest might have been average game at best, but visuals, mech movements and effects were more than acceptable and I'm sure devs took lessons from that project too.

I can't even really give Iron Harvest credit for its visuals and effects when they, too, were barely functional - the game was very much a Unity project and there was very little attention given to the massive work needed to optimize for a wide variety of hardware, and to this day the game runs like ♥♥♥♥ and overuses GPU resources to only look okay. But fine, whatever floats your boat.

The other stuff that was part of the actual gameplay, I'm not cool with - a horrid misunderstanding of how combat actually occurs in these games. For example, in Company of Heroes, no matter what weapons your infantry are using, save for special units like Snipers or HMGs, the engagement range is the same - units will start firing, but an SMG squad will obviously do next to no damage at long range, and so on, because of built-in accuracy values. Squads in Iron Harvest had perfect accuracy, and cover was basically just magic magnet points only on specific terrain features which made units crouch behind them. Bullets were exclusively modelled as physics objects, so a unit in cover being shot at would take absolutely no damage, provided the 100% accurate bullets didn't somehow catch the arm or kneecap of a soldier behind a poorly-programmed cover segment.

Compare that to Company of Heroes, where you have dynamic cover that uses absolutely everything in the battlefield to affect squad combat performance, you have individual weapon profiles and unit stats so that different squads can be more or less effective, even with the same weapons, and you have a complex combat calculation where you have hitscan (accuracy) and modelled projectile scatter, making sure engagements are relatively predictable without sacrificing an element of excitement or randomness. Almost every single Relic game has featured some or all of these combat elements, and they combine to make a fun game. Unfortunately this was too much work for KAG back then - I can't imagine this changing much, especially hearing that the game is once again programmed in Unity and once again, units seem (not fully confirmed yet) 100% accurate.
