empyrean / railjack was kinda pitched as this unifying concept for warframe up to that point. but it didn't materialize that way. there were a whole bunch of ideas thrown around throughout the development of it, and it was just... underbaked for the time.

it needed a whole bunch of iteration but it was such a heavy lift for players (and the devs) that it just wound up being more-or-less unmanageable.

Yeah. The idea for it is amazing. The implementation... fell rather short. While the current active version of it is fun, it feels far more limited.

there is some real genius in the core-engine design. the game-mode fails, ultimately, in level design. i don't know what the limits they're under there are... but i think the approach to level design for this game-mode is what killed it.

these days you can pretty easily hit a game on steam that has similar mechanics to railjack, most do it better. but DE really did kinda pioneer the implementation of this. they just didn't do a good job of giving the players something to do with it.

i'd love to see what they could do with it if they shunted off a portion of staff to just "see if you can make railjack not suck" for like 3-4 years.

Completely agreed here. I fully support the creation of a Railjack Mad Science Laboratory.
