You can use the compressors and decompressors to send liquids between maps and biomes, not just outposts on the same map. As an example, this allows you to set up Gas production on a map with abundant sludge pools for cheap Gas production, then send that gas to other maps.

I think most people think the elites are one single entity, but they are also people and also have sides as well. The tech elites are currently at war with the old-school elites, and we really don't have any insight.

Interestingly, now that the left has no power in the US, anyone who still leans left is going to claim "both sides are bad" now.
