Swarms of Cruiser and Destroyers spamming HE/SAP or Torps from behind any Islands

BBs are driving Healthpools suffered by Overpens

Yamato's got a fuse threshold of 77mm. You need to take that into account when it comes to aiming, ammo selection, target prioritisation, etc.

You can potentially arm AP on water, although the water will mess up shell velocity and pen, and the autoaim system doesn't like it, but it is an option.
Otherwise you need to figure out if there's enough effective armour from angled plates to arm the shell;
if there's enough deck clutter (turrets, barbettes, etc) to potentially arm it;
or if you need to take the L to dev-strike potentially and switch to HE.

You also have to factor in your range and thus the trade-off between impact angle of the shell (and thus its trajectory into the ship) and the increased dispersion from greater range, which means shells are more likely to miss where you're aiming and go through plates too think to arm (bow / stern / superstructure / whatever).

Yamato's gimmick is the overmatch vs 32mm plates and penning thick armour; its gimmick is not vs superlight cruisers and DDs.

Against superlights you'd prefer something with lower calibre guns that will have lower fuse thresholds; and ideally that will also have improved fuse times or more convenient impact angles and lots of barrels. Against DDs something with a load of HE alpha.

By the time you get to T10, you should have learned that islands are the friends of island-campers and yolo-torp DDs; they are not the friends of battleships. That's a misplay.

Pushing into HE spam from multiple ships you cannot see, and thus cannot shoot back at, is a misplay.

Getting farmed by island campers before you can just clear a corner and delete them? That's down to not accounting for vision and playing around it; not supporting your teammates so that they could unpeel the first layers of the defensive onion, or pushing in before teammates had the time needed to unpeel those first layers.

Play a cruiser yourself and welcome to hell. They have been so hard powercreeped, what else can they do other than hiding behind islands?

Depends on the cruiser in question, its playstyle, and the match-ups on the field.

Island-camping cruisers naturally want to island camp (USN tech tree lines, for example). It's their thing.

Smoke farming cruisers want to mix up their island play with using their smokes to find more aggressive safe positions that they can generate more battle impact from.

Stealth cruisers want to be reload & traverse griefing enemy battleships, while using their positioning to maximise their alpha potential.

Acceleration jukers want to be using speed boosts at max range to swap between idle, full forward, and full reverse each salvo so that they're never still in the place that the shells arrive at, while they constantly spam out HE.

Booty-tankers want to be at max range in a kiting position laughing as dispersion means most incoming salvoes barely tickle them, as they constantly spam spam spam consistent HE damage; mixing in reload / traverse griefing against especially high-risk overmatch threats.

All heavies want to pay attention to when overmatch threats are farmed off the field, and then use their manoeuvrability to establish aggressive crossfire positions and delete the remaining broadsides.
