Yes, the Theftsystem definitely needs some rework, on the make it harder to earn a profit side of things.
If you want to, you can get rich af within a few hours by just stealing cars instead of flipping legal used cars, as stealing them and refurbishing them is waaaayyyy better then a legal one.

Here is a simple example, right out of the game, right this second:

I searched Cars for sale and found a Fetarri F420 being sold at Riverside.
If you played the game for a few hours you'll know... Riverside or Lakeside camp = if it is waaaayyyy cheaper then the reselling value = stolen.
So I went up to the Swampfolks and bought a license plate for 45k(?) maybe 49k. sth like this.

The seller wanted 240ish k for the car, I looked at him, laughed and teleported back to the Swampies. Bought 3 hotwiring kits for... uh... I think 35grand per kit?

So the math goes:

100k hotwiring kits, NO lockpicks, as the car was missing both doors anyways (lol)
And the license plate for lets say 50k

150k to steal the Fetarri. Dayum, that's some hot cakes, right?
you open the hotwiring minigame, if your brain is old, like mine, note down which way the pin goes and done.
Yeah police is coming for you but uh... Fetarri, aight? Riverside isn't hard to get rid of the cops too, even with a Piat Funto.
If you haven't lost the cops up till the gas station you're seriously doing sth wrong. I'm old and I lose them.
Pull on the side at the gas station, swap the license plates and done.
A nice and fresh Fetarri for 150k.

Fully repaired let's say it might have costed 160k for a wooping reselling price of OVER 350k!

Why even bother buying legal cars?

The moment you unlock Carjacking, you can straight up go full scrooge McDuck.

As this example shows, it is way too easy making money with stolen cars.

After thinking the whole day about this problem, a few things came to my mind:

1 option: Make the Kits and Plates more expensive, lowering the turnover for stolen cars.
The problem here is, that it isn't static. Cheaper Cars wouldn't be worth stealing anymore, The expensive ones would possibly be balanced.

2 option: Lower the margin between stolen car and reselling value.
I mean, the discount for the fetarri was at the 30%ish side. That's waaayyyy too much, even for selling hot stuff.
This might be a more viable option in the balancing department.

3 option: Make it harder to steal a car.
A possible way might be active Owners that attack you the moment you start hotwiring the car instead of watching you, sipping their beer and going full "Meh... she wouldn't dare stealing the car right in front of me, aight?"

Another way might be a more intelligent Police.
There is someone that sells somewhat legal license plates even the police can't notice in an inspection? They look at the plates and the FIN of a car besides other points.
Maybe it might be a solution to offer different grades of license plates.
low grade, it looks legal buut wouldn't stand an inspection, cheap, your risk of getting caught.
medium grade plate, it will hold off the cops at a roadblock but if they show up at your door, you better pray, because the plate wouldn't survive a close inspection of that kind.
High grade, a plate that is created from a masterforger. Expensive, but you slap it on and the cops go "Oh, nothing to see here, well dayum. Have a good day sir and sorry for bothering you!"

If I take my time I would possibly come up with more ideas but so far, the crime system is way too simple and needs some serious rework to be fun and engaging or even somewhat thrilling.

yesterday... after 8 months...

I´ve been playing this game for 11 years.
And I tend to return every now and then for a relaxed session.

The Alien Expansion broke the game for me, breaking immersion, killing my builts with random capsules and the endgame for it is just "chasing the Aliens away" that i "accidentally called" now ruling the Dwarf kingdom with laser weapons, breaking any sense of immersion.

If i want lasers, I play the beautiful "not-Star Wars" Mod.

The Tree expension is similarily nonsensical, while pretty, it just makes no lore sense whatsoever, why start DWARFS high up in a tree, and having to grind through endless almost immortal wood, to even get close to the natural habitat?

It just didn´t make any sense...

I find myself going vanilla on my secondary PC, just enjoying the base game, as the DLC are stupid by now.

I still buy each of them, to support Dekovir, because no other game had kept me entertained for 11 years on end, not being an extensive RPG.

It´s also the best "Dwarf Game" out there, and that says more about the market than the game itself.

It would be great, it could be great, again, if they´d start Bug Stomping instead of introducing new problems...

I get random desync teleporting me back to previous locations. It's actually annoying on boss fights or when trying to res because one second you're somewhere and next second you're in a corner with the boss on you. Or you just can't even revive until it syncs your position back again

That happened to me while fighting the chimera. It sucks because he moves around a lot and when you desync into a random spot you end up taking damage you tried to avoid.
