Yes, WaW and WiE hve gone through several years of upgrades. While I can’t be sure of the extent of the partisan changes in the latest versions, those videos might be just old enough that you’re seeing the difference.

It's unreasonable to expect every game in a series to sell better than the previous game, in perpetuity, forever, yes. It's also unreasonable to suggest that a game not being the best-selling in a series means it wasn't a success. Again: By any metric, GOWR was a HUGE success and sold amazingly well, as well as being very well-received by critics and fans alike. It was objectively successful.
