If in fact Valve had these "safeguards" (the very term used by Visa as to their rationale on this matter), this issue likely would not have happened.

No. This issue would still occur. We know this. We have extensive examples of this, that have been increasing in number since this began in 2019. Age verification for purchasing adult content in Japan -- where the payment processors first started this puritanical assault -- is done through credit cards. No person under the age of 18 can have a credit card in Japan. It's why it's used for age verification by online stores including Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft, Amazon, Fanza, and many others. If you don't have a credit card or use a non-credit card payment method, these stores consider you a child. Sony, for example, will then block you from accessing any CERO Z (18+) game available through their PS+ subscription service.

But that proof of age wasn't good enough for Visa and Mastercard. They still demanded products be removed from sale.

So, even if Valve do implement proper age verification for all regions that require it, that is not going to suddenly make Visa and Mastercard say, "Okay, bro, issue solved. Sell all the sex you want."

Again, this is why more and more Japanese politicians are joining the fight against the unlawful foreign-led censorship of our constitutionally mandated freedom of artistic expression.

Well, a credit card is not a form of ID. Not here in the States. You can't go by that.

Like we can't go by "I promise those of this billion dollar company will assure parents will do our jobs for us".

That's not how it goes.

This happened in the very time period you mentioned, because 2018 was the very time Mr Newell started playing around with adult content.

And to put it in a family friendly way, he screwed up, and found out.

If i made a hay about it here, and countless others on their threads, what did you think others would eventually do?

They were gonna rat on Steam. As the ADL did. As Collective Shout did.

Visa gave their response to this matter, posted here...

It seems pretty self explanatory.
