TL;DR He's had an intern that created a tonne of new assets for the game, too many for him to keep up with in terms of programming and design work, so he's working on implementing them. He has also had an extended period of family illnesses and he's developing his own programming language, these things have collided resulting in a few development delays.
Progress continues.

Game starts to get slow and sound distorted. If I do it quickly I can exit the game, otherwise, the computer freezes and the video signal is lost, so I have to perform a hard reset.

sounds like a PSU issue

How can I be certain of that? Why does rebooting completely solve the problem?

Maybe in creep mode once it finds the player, and theres nearby npcs or snpcs, it controls them and makes them try and chase the player down while lights flicker everywhere?

or maybe just like being a mimic because there is barley any mimic horror npcs with that feature

it is a world wide super popular game, otherwise we wouldn't be talking about it 30 years later after its release. that's the only thing what really matters in this context.

if you think that those were so widely complained about issues, then provide source. because i can give you a link to any entertainment oriented retro gaming channel that reviewed hexen, and i guarantee to you that in most of them they'll ♥♥♥♥♥ about anything what's on the screen.

As you said it yourself, the game is 30 years old from a time when most reviews were on print. Just because it's popular doesn't mean it doesn't have issues.

Xaser himself explained in the Nightdive interview following this release that the changes are made based on common feedback.

If there were absolutely no balance problems with Hexen or Heretic whatsoever, why would Nightdive bother with these changes instead of just releasing them as is like they did with Blood, Dark Forces and Doom? It's just piling on more work on themselves.

Look at the general complaints. There's a pattern there. So it's not just retro reviewers complaining.

Unbound if you have face tattoos, like Ironheart movie, enjoy overtakes and participate in looting. Basically, the younger you are, the darker your skin color is, and the closer you are to USA major cities, the more you will enjoy this game.

Otherwise - Heat is your only reasonable choice. Better music. Better cars. Better campaign. Better races. Better dialogues and characters. Better maps. Better plot.

In Unbound, you play as cheap-a$$ bruh (even as female character, you will be masculine "bruh" from some ghetto, and you can add pink beard to support the notion of being "bruh" with vag) driving weird zero taste "street culture" car while listening to zero taste "street culture" music. You will be driving public places, smashing your way through people (I'm not joking here) as if it is Carmageddon, because game overall is about having fun and making money while having zero responsibility. Simply because... I don't know, the world is grim dark place that is supposed to be burn to the ground, while twerking and saying "bruh" to each other? The world is dull, overcomplicated, toxic and overall meta.

In Heat you play as a professional racer, who's making money at day by participating in legal official street races, and earn his/her cred at night by attending to illegal street drifting and racing events, getting in trouble with cops, trying to get away with it. Doing jobs here and there, meeting people, you will soon get into some "fried cops and politics" shenanigans, which is overall organic and fun to play. The world is sunny, energetic, full of places, people and events.
