Hunter munitions isn't worth using on anything but crit AOE weapons now, some slash sources can be decent such as Harmony Afflictions, Glaive Prime (though not as good as literally any other glaive) and Garuda due her number of scalings.

Slash got nerfed twice essentially, enemy hp increased by 2.5x while armor being capped, the true damage that it used to be really good for no so much anymore. IPS never really mattered though, Slash was the only useful one back then and Puncture was just kind of nice for the extra cc, Impact is still worthless.

I had this happen to me, but it was from deleting the floor the sub-fief was on while upgrading it from granite to plastone. The base luckily didn't have any stakes and I knew the center point to place a new fief (I built the base to start with), but it was definitely a shock when I deleted that floor from below and the shields went down.

If stuff is built precisely close to walls (like most people build their machines and storages), the walls of the story below become a supporting block of the machines next to the walls on the story above. The only way to avoid this is to move them out and away from the walls before demolishing anything.

have an issue with STEP 4/5 on cmd :
